After LOVING the first 3 White Stripes albums I started to tire of them by Elephant, and then GBMS kind of passed me by. Nice tonal shift and some decent tunes, but wasn't mega keen.

A familiar friend from a formative period. Great tunes and arrangements, but just needs trimming back a bit.

Just like some good old Kentucky Fried Chicken
And all of it was good enough to be finger lickin′
Bit of a coked-up mess?

Essential.

Frank Sinatra can't sing bossa nova. A total mismatch - a whole that is less than the sum of its parts.

Five stars-ah, and not even the best Fall album-ah.

How did I completely overlook this album at the time? A beautiful concept wonderfully executed.
A really solid Masekela outing, though not sure why this one rather than any other. Probably hidden depths that are yet to reveal themselves to me - must listen again.

Perfectly fine but inconsequential music. Another one where MUST listen to is a bit of a joke.

Feel like I expect more from ZZ Top. Solid, but nothing remarkable.

Some of this has aged brilliantly, some less so.

This project made me listen to an Alice Cooper album, School's Out. That was a surprising blast. Probably should have left it at that as I found myself losing interest as this album progressed. Very forgettable.

Peaky Shaky, all wonderful songs. Would mark down a smidge for the sexism of Man Needs A Maid, but I feel like it's bit of clumsiness rather than unpleasantness. Will give him the benefit of the doubt.

I thought I knew this album well and it was a nailed on 5 star. On registering, maybe there's a few songs that don't quite match up to the rest, including the overrated Pump It Up. The underrated The Beat might be my favourite EC song.

What a fascinating and strange listen. Think it might be brilliant, but not totally sure. Love that Kevin Rowland constantly reinvents himself, this album being a case in point, and did he invent the album skit?
Rated 2/10
The instrumental element of this record is incredible, but a concept album about a middle aged bloke running over and then fucking a 14 year old girl is abhorrent.

50% bangers, 50% meh.
Rated 10/10
Drug-addled madness that kind of makes no sense as an album yet is somehow brilliant. Don't ask me why or how.
Rated 8/10
Whilst at least 50% of the members of Blur are annoying they do make a pretty solid band. This might be their best album, retaining their very English charm and style, a la The Kinks, and mostly keeps some of their wackier inclination under wraps.

Why ambassador, with this Illmatic you are spoiling us.
Undeniable beats and lyrics. All lean, no fat.
