Mmmmm, the sweet sounds of the desert. If you're out here looking for some flashy playing, over-the-top singing, and theatrics, you've come to the wrong place.
Tres Hombres is a laid-back odyssey and a homage to the desolate American highways, featuring simple rhythmic playing and alternating sparse arrangements, like on " Hot Blue " and " Righteous, " or some heavy, rousing tracks like the first three songs.
Side A blows it out of the water with the infectious compositions, while the other side is a bit more meandering (even if it has La Grange). Still, a really great album.

Or, as it's also known, that one with La Grange and some other ones.
There's probably nothing much wrong with the other ones, other than them not being La Grange.
Generally, you get a blues riff, some good soloing (Billy Gibbons knows his way round a fretboard) and some cliche lyrics. When that formula gels then it's a fun time But other times it's probably no better or worse than what you could hear in any bar in Texas.
La Grange with its solid gold riff, its mumbled lyrics - "You know what I'm talkin' 'bout!" - and its absurdly over the top solos is in another league altogether.

Meh, tampoco me ha dicho mucho. Muy rock setentero.
Rated 8/10
Normally I can't think of anything more boring than contemporary blues rock, but these guys have always been cooler than the form. And weird enough to keep my interest. But mostly I just have "La Grange" stuck in my head all day.
Rated 8/10
Yeah this is a bit of me, crazy I haven't listened to more ZZ Top in the past. I'm going to try and keep my 5 stars for something that really slaps me around the face but this is really good.

Top : Precious and Grace
Flop : Have You Heard?
Rated 8/10
I like this way better than their later, kitschier stuff. Some very cool guitar work and vocals. I can see why this was a big influence on bands like QOTSA and Monster Magnet
Rated 8/10
Rated 10/10
The Good: We get to see a great western comedy!
The Bad: That my Spanish is so bad, thus no Chevy Chase, Martin Short or Steve Martin...
The Ugly: Imagining the afore mentioned with ZZ style beards...
Fuck me, this was so enjoyable on the second listen!
It has soul, it has funk, it has rock, and blues and even a little country... what a great melting pot of music.
Also, one can hear where Joe Bonamassa got his sound from.
Also, chalk another 5* up to the '70s!!!
Would give 6* if I could

Did they really need 2 albums on this list?
(Also 300 down, we’re almost a full year in)

Lyrically, it's a lot better than Eliminator! Musically, it's a lot worse.

Favorite track(s): Waitin' for the Bus, Jesus Just Left Chicago, Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers, La Grange
Rated 8/10
Oh hell yeah. It’s music like this that makes me imagine my hair blowing in the breeze as I’m cruising in a sexy muscle car in the ‘70s. If you lived that life, I envy you. Anyway, loved this. And someone please invent a time machine already.
Top tracks: Waitin’ for the Bus, Jesus Just Left Chicago, La Grange

Day 4
I feel like a Texan father of three after this. It's aight. Some songs are actually pretty good, some just blend together
Fav track: Jesus Just Left Chicago
Rated 6/10
It’s a straightforward, unadorned blues rock album with a Southern style, nothing more, nothing less. A solid 3.5 for the way it made me play air guitar at stop lights.
Rated 6/10
This is a bluesy, groovy rock n roll album that I've heard a couple songs off of before. The guitars were good and it was pretty okay overall.
Rated 2/10
Tres Hombres is often praised as a cornerstone of blues rock, but I found it surprisingly dull. While the trio is undeniably tight as a band, most of the album blends together into a repetitive mix of mid-tempo blues riffs that rarely evolve or build any real excitement.
Billy Gibbons' guitar work is technically solid, but it seldom ventures beyond familiar blues-rock clichés. The rhythm section is locked in, yet the grooves become predictable after a few tracks. Outside of the obvious standout, "La Grange," there are very few memorable hooks or moments that justify the album's legendary reputation.
The production has a warm, raw quality that suits the band's style, but it also exposes how limited the songwriting feels. Many songs seem content to ride the same riff for several minutes without introducing compelling melodies, dynamic changes, or lyrical depth. Instead of sounding stripped back and authentic, much of the record comes across as uninspired and monotonous.
I can appreciate its historical importance and the influence it had on Southern and blues rock, but influence alone doesn't make for an engaging listen. For me, Tres Hombres is an overrated album whose handful of strong moments are buried beneath a collection of forgettable, formulaic tracks.

I need to dive into more ZZ Top!
