Ambient world electronica. Weird concept. World music base with electronic music mixing. Interesting to listen to, but not something I will ever revisit.

Primus Sucks.

Les Claypool is an insanely talented bassist. I love how the bass is the focal point of all of Primus' music. The bass is usually lost in the background of most music, but here it is front and center. I love how these guys don't take themselves too seriously. They are just here to experiment and have fun. They don't care whether anyone likes it or not, they're just here to have fun. The musical fusion they create is like nothing produced anywhere else. An underappreciated band, and a great listen. The fact that Primus had no albums on the original 1001 list is criminal.

This album is the one which catapulted Primus into the public eye. Before that, they were largely just an underground act. Jerry Was a Race Car Driver changed all that!

Favorite songs: Jerry Was a Race Car Driver, Tommy the Cat, Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers, American Life, Sgt. Baker, Fish On (Fisherman Chronicles: Chapter II), Eleven

This album sounds like German Radiohead, but with less moaning and more electronic influence, but that same kinda weird alt/indie rock.

These guys remind me a lot of MJ Lenderman, especially the song Consequence. I've been trying to figure out who the singers voice sounds like. It's a dead ringer for MJ Lenderman.

Favorite songs: Consequence, Pick Up the Phone, Pilot, Neon Golden, This Room

Another prog heavy hitter! The themes of this album are retellings of Edgar Allan Poe's poetry and horror stories. Before today, the only exposure to APP I had was their album Eye in the Sky. This is their debut album. Super strong for a 1st album. Really great!

Favorite songs: (The System of) Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether, The Tell-Tale Heart, The Raven, The Fall of the House of Usher: Pavane

Early British prog. Reminds me a bit of Yes but better.

A lot of history around this album. Apparently the lads got an album cover design company called Hipgnosis to make the cover art for this album. It depicts a warrior overlooking a valley at Gorges du Verdon in Provence, France. The warriors wardrobe was borrowed from the set of the 1971 film The Devils. The warrior was supposed to be holding a spear and a sword. The sword was rented from the set of Roman Polanski's film Macbeth. On the cover, the warrior is only holding a spear, because someone stole the sword before they could take the pictures. Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin loved the album cover so much that he contacted Hipgnosis to create the album cover for Houses of the Holy. Also, the warrior on the album cover inspired the character design of Darth Vader.

When I saw that this was another Scottish indie band, I immediately assumed the album would be trash. If the trend continued from all of the Scottish music included on the original list, that would be true. Thankfully, the OP selected an album that was actually pretty good. Reminds me of a slightly shittier Oasis. Not something I would revisit often, but I'm glad it's on the list, because up until now I just assumed all Scottish music after the bagpipe was just trash. This gives me hope that there is more good music from there, you just have to go digging for it.

I have vivid memories of listening to the song All My Best Friends Are Metalheads while playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 in the 00's. This album is feel good skate punk/ska punk. A defining sound of the late 90's/early 00's. Very similar to The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Reel Big Fish, or SR-71. Thanks OP for the huge shot of nostalgia today.

Solid skate punk. Kinda dumb that it's only 1 song, but that is also the most punk rock thing to do lol. It doesn't feel like an 18 minute song when listening to it though. The larger song is made up of several smaller songs it feels like.

I would think there are better NOFX albums that could have been recommended, but all in all, pretty solid.

Favorite song: take a guess....lol (The Decline)

Orchestral Daft Punk wasn't on 2026's Bingo Card, that's for sure....

This is nothing like normal club/party music Daft Punk. This is like Hans Zimmer Daft Punk.... This whole album sounds like a Hans Zimmer album with electronic influence. And, having never seen the TRON movies, I can't assign these random musical movements to a movie scene, so it's just.....dumb.

Soundtracks that aren't just a collection of various artists songs are kinda dumb. Like ....one of the greatest soundtracks of all time is O' Brother Where Art Thou. Each song on that album is actually a song. With a beginning, middle and end. Not some random musical movement. Each song holds its own and can be enjoyed regardless of whether you've seen the movie or not. This is just random shitty orchestral electronica. It doesn't stand up on its own.

Soundtracks shouldn't be allowed on this list. Ya know what makes this album worse? It's almost 1hr 30mins long ffs.

Favorite songs: Derezzed, End of Line, TRON Legacy, Castor

Today's album is OUT THERE! The album is based on a study regarding people with Alzheimer's disease being able to remember music they listened to when they were younger, as well as where they were and how they felt when listening to it. Dude who made this album bought up a bunch of pre-WW2 ballroom records, and created this dreamscape record.

It heavily features the crackle of a phonograph as well as samples of old ballroom music. The music comes into and out of focus, kind of like you're standing outside a bar in downtown pre-war New York. You're close enough to hear the music muffled and just out of focus, but every now and again someone opens the door and you get shots of clear music, all while maintaining a steady phonograph crackle. I can see how these kinds of sounds would trigger memory in old folks with Alzheimer's.

This is the weird shit that should be on this list. Will I revisit this album again.....probably not......am I glad it exists.....absolutely.

Another UK Grime album. This is an interesting genre of music. It's like rap/hip hop with electronic and dance mixed in. The first grime album I was introduced to was Konnichiwa by Skepta, which was included on the regular 1001 list.
