Another Beatles album with a few duds and also some of the greatest songs ever written. The first half (the film soundtrack) MASSIVELY overshadows the second half on this one.

Perfectly balances the raw sound of their debut with a more radio friendly sheen. And just some amazing tunes on here. Also haven’t given Gouge Away enough credit as a closer before!

They were a lot more punk-y in their early days! Reminded me a lot of Blondie. First half is better than the slower second half, but a very good album.

A behemoth of an album. Essentially two solo albums released together. I really wanna give it 5 stars but it’s just a bit too unwieldy for that (The Love Below could have defo had the fat trimmed a little, although its weirdness is part of its charm - a breakbeat version of My Favourite Things? Yes please!). But this is a great album(s). And shout out having skits that aren’t absolute garbage and are actually funny, and sometimes quite sweet.

I tried my best. I went in 100% objective, removing the art from the artist fully. And Bawitdaba made me think ‘ah ok this will be dumb but fun’.

Dear reader, this was an ordeal.

Half the songs are like Rage Against the Machine if they sucked. The other half is like old school hip hop if it sucked. There’s occasionally tiny moments I like (a good baseline here, a cool riff there, Eminem popping in for 30 seconds). But these moments are ruined by, I’m not kidding, some of the worst lyrics I have ever heard. Not just dumb, but aggravatingly brainless. It means there’s not a moment on this album I’m actively enjoying.

All bar maybe 3 of the songs are completely forgettable. Mr Rock does try to change it up with a power ballad, which is dreadful. Then a story song to end, which is dreadful AND deeply misogynistic and pretty racist.

I’m sorry Mr Rock, I really went in with an open mind. Unfortunately, you filled my open mind with this.

Drums and production reminded me of Joy Division at first. Really liked the No-Wave influence towards the end.

I think I’ve come to the conclusion that the more Neil leans into the blues the less I like him and the more he leans into folk the more I like him. There’s a mix on here.

There’s some bizarre stuff on here.
Don’t know if any of the songs over 6.5 mins needed to be that length, but when it’s this funky and fun you can’t really complain.
3.5 but I’ll round up.

Super nostalgic for any 00s kid.
Second half isn’t quite as good as the first but what do you expect when the first half is that amazing?

Loved the Latin feel of this. So much so I think the noodle-y guitar of Carlos was my least favourite bit of it

Very chill and nice versions of some classic songs. Nothing crazy on here tho and the blues-y nature of it grated after a while. Cool it was recorded in one day with one mic!
