i had heard clint eastwood before but i've never listened to anything else off of this album. an eclectic mix of genres but overall works pretty well.

fantastic instrumentation dragged down by tedious vocals and juvenile lyrics. flea and chad smith were locked in and laid down a funky rhythm section. john frusciante came in and overlaid some absurd guitar parts; then here comes anthony kiedis to ruin it all. the vocal delivery ranges from tuneless talk singing to half hearted crooning. the discrepancy between the amount of talent possessed and effort put in by ak vs the rest of the band is absolutely mind boggling and i can't for the life of me understand why they've put up with him as the frontman for so long. without ak this would be 5 easily, with him its hard to justify more than a 3. the fact that its 74 minutes of him pulls it down to a 2 for me

i enjoyed this overall. he incorporated a ton of different instruments which kept things feeling fresh and unpredictable. speaking of unpredictable, my major complaint about this album comes from the vocalizations. the random growls in pt 2 interrupt the groove in a bad way. but they don't hold a candle to the sudden announcement of incoming instruments at the end of pt 1. this made me bust out laughing completely took me out of the music. without those two things this is easily a five star album

i've always thought of sheryl as pop country so i was surprised to hear some of these songs that leaned more pop rock. theres a few good really good tracks, a few really bad ones, and the rest fall somewhere in between.

beautiful songwriting and arrangements. i like the melancholic vibes. overall extremely well done and an easy five if you like this style but ultimately it's not for me

individually, the songs aren't as bad as everyone is making them out to be. if you turn your brain off for a bit some of them are actually pretty fun tracks. they arent good, but they arent that bad.

that said listening to them back to back is torturous. there are maybe three distinct ideas across the whole album, recycled endless across tracks which are already far too long for how little substance they offer.

up until now in the review, i've separated the art from the artist because, lets face it, if we judged every album here by the artist's behavior, a lot of classics wouldn't get a single star. that said, kid rock is one artist who absolutely deserves to be lambasted for his actions. the lyrics of the last song are a clear window into a deep rooted, ugly mindset that poisons any remaining enjoyment this album might've offered.

enjoyed this immensely. i grew up hearing this album though the only tracks that I really remember are the singles. ironically the album cuts are just as good if not better than the singles.
