It's awesome. The mixing of hip hop, funk, punk, and rock, plus the prodigious use of sampling, creates an incredibly creative, forward-thinking, and influential record. The frat boy rhymes can be both intelligent (Pass me the scalpel, I'll make an incision I'll cut off the part of your brain that does the bitching; Put it in formaldehyde and put it in the shelf; And you can show it to your friends and say "that's my old self"), and bawdry (Rapunzel Rapunzel let down your hair; So I can climb up and get inside your underwear).

As with all hip hop, it shows its age, but I also think it has aged like a fine wine with a realization of how foundational and influential this album was during the early days of hip hop. 4.5 stars.

I think it was really good, probably a 3.5. It was trending towards a 4-star, but it got a little elevator-ish at the end. I liked it, and based on the year it was made, it was very influential and I think it holds up well. It's just that I've heard too much soundtrack music that sounds just like this to really justify a 4 star review.

Mostly boring, but there are a few really good songs. Mostly it's just kind of droning, mid 902 background "alternative" music. I've been vacillating between 2 and 3 stars the entire album. I'll get a good song, then the next couple start to drain me closer and closer to 2 stars, then I'll get a good one that jumps me back up to 3 stars, and we start the process over again.

I don’t know, it was ok? It’s hard to rate as it’s old, and it’s in a language I don’t understand. I didn’t dislike it, and it had some decent beats, so I’ll give it a 3. Maybe a 2.5 if there were half stars.

This is interesting, because I hated Here Come The Warm Jets, but I adored Music for Airports. I’m not excited to check this out, but I’m curious.

So, I think this album is smack in the middle of the other two. I think there was a lot to like, but I also think there were songs that just sounded out of date. I kind of liked it, so three stars it is.

OK, this is bad. It's very stereotypical 80s whiny pop. There are a couple songs that actually had me tapping my toes a bit, but there's just so much in this album that encapsulates an era and genre of music that I dislike very much. I guess if you're a fan of 80s pop, it's probably fine? I can't identify anything special or unique about it, but who knows? It's on this (very British-centric) project for a reason.

This was surprisingly good. I think it's probably a 3.5, but I'm going to give it a bonus half star because I spent the rest of the day listening to The Payback by James Brown, and that album is FIRE.

Overall it’s fine. Good, even! Does this project really need *four* Sonic Youth albums? I submit that it does not.

Excellent album. Bit too long at an hour and a quarter. I love Robert Smith, but it starts to feel a bit same-y, even though every song is excellent. Solid 4 stars.

Very good album. Yet another example of why we should have half stars.

Very good 90s-era house album that shows its age but holds up fairly well. 3.5 stars.

I got Brian Eno’s Here Come The Warm Jets a few months ago, and while I could hear its influence and the bones of future music it inspired, the album itself wasn’t very good.

So when Brian Eno popped up again today, I was incredibly disappointed. But from the first note, I knew that I was in for something very, very different than Here Come The Warm Jets. I would have to say, that in nearly 550 albums, this one has been one of my top three or four most pleasant surprises.

I’m a huge fan of the Ghosts albums by Nine Inch Nails, which I now understand to be a direct successor to this album. It’s simple, yet layered. Melancholy, yet hopeful. It’s haunting, yet accessible. It’s simply beautiful.

It’s ok. Look, this is why I’m always whining for half stars. I rated my last two albums three stars, and I liked both of those LOADS better than I liked this milqutoast, paint-by-numbers, psychedelic 60s rock template - but I didn’t *dislike* this. It’s not my kind of music, and I don’t really want to listen to it again, but do I want to give it a 2? I mean…kind of. But even at 2 stars, I’d rather listen to this than the Bruce Springsteen album I got a few days ago. 2.5 stars.

Quite good. I’d really love to give this a 3.5. Never heard of this band, but it’s very unique and really listenable.

I’m really kind of struggling with my rating system at the moment, because 3 is “fine” and 4 is “really good,” but there are loads of albums that are just good, you know? So if 3 is a baseline rating of albums I merely don’t dislike, and 4 is the rating for albums that I *really* like, then where do I go with albums like this, where I’d be more than happy to listen to it again, but I more than likely won’t seek it out?

Overall, surprisingly good. Although I try to keep an open mind, I will admit to a certain bias when I am presented with an album from the 80s, so I was not excited to see this album pop up. That said, I was very pleasantly surprised.

I think it’s very unique, in that it sounds like a mix of many different things, and not at all the stereotypical 80s sound. About half the album deserves 4 stars, but there are too many songs that sound country-ish, or just kind of bland. I wish I could give it a 3.5.
