I used to absolutely love this album when I was younger. It felt dangerous, cool, and a bit untouchable. Listening back now, I don’t quite hold it in the same reverence — and I can’t help wondering if Lou Reed is slightly overrated.
That said, there’s no denying how strong this record is. The songwriting is sharp, the attitude effortless, and the atmosphere unmistakable. The “Perfect Day” demo is beautiful — stripped back and genuinely moving, showing the tenderness behind the bravado.
Favourite tracks: It’s almost impossible to choose. “Vicious” is brilliantly biting, and “Walk on the Wild Side” is iconic for a reason — laid-back, stylish, and completely of its time.
Least favourite: If I’m being picky, “Goodnight Ladies” — but even that has its charm.
Album artwork: A perfect cover. Stark, cool, and effortlessly stylish
Even if it doesn’t hit me quite the way it once did, it’s still a hugely important and influential album — and one I’ll always have some affection for.
