I am really a sucker for G-Funk, I’ve come to find out. This album isn’t perfect and probably hasn’t aged the best, but the beats are so goddamn good that it doesn’t really matter. Doesn’t quite do the same for me as the other G-Funk classic, the Chronic, but it’s good nonetheless. I do find the skits interfering with the flow of the album though, there’s a few too many of them in here which makes me less eager to put the album on.

Like catnip to babyboomers. Heard this album so often that every song is ingrained into my memory. Half nostalgia, half just enjoyable but generic music. There's some excellent playing on here, I especially like Money for Nothing and The man's too strong. Mark Knopfler knew how to write good songs and just stacked the entire album with them. Doesn't really get boring, even if it's somewhat generic 80's Rock at the end of the day.

Wasn't really looking forward to this, but it turned out to be surprisingly good. Some of the songs on here were incredibly Funky, kind of a fun surprise that it was a blend of Country and Funk and Pop here. Had some genuine fun songs I'd put on again, but they are balanced out by the less interesting and slower paced ballads on here. Bit of a mixed bag at the end, and the stand out hit isn't all that great either.

Underrated favorite of mine, shame they never caught on with the wider public. They have some great songs and their albums are overall enjoyable. It's like Hardcore, but not quite. Good blend of different influences, hear everything here from Black Flag to Suicide. I honestly enjoyed it a bit more the past few listens. Kind of want to give it a 5 just because of its low rating here but I'll refrain.

Nothing redeemable about this for me. Where are the songs? It's all a bit too theatrical and out there for me. Nothing to really latch onto and enjoy. I don't dislike Kate Bush, but this brought out all the elements of her music I really don't enjoy.

Hadn’t listened to in a while, but it’s still enjoyable. It seems to have influenced a lot of what came after it, or at least a lot of modern music sounds quite similar to this. I think Pavement does this Alt rock better though, good variety on the record and still fit with some genuine hard moments. Not really a favorite but it’s enjoyable enough.

Bit more of a toned down Disco album. It's still really groovy, but the beat is a lot more laid back and less danceable than most other Disco albums. Bunch of nice tracks on here. Nile Rodgers had some excellent playing on here as well. Just solid, just not that outstanding of a piece of Disco.

Some of the Rolling Stone's best tracks are on here, but I also feel that this his a bit of filler on it. Gimme Shelter and Midnight Rambler are two stand out moments that the rest of the album can't quite reach. Seems the Rolling Stones were already losing their edge a little when they switched to this more Country-inspired sound. Not necessarily a bad switch, just different. It's still a solid effort and the album is over before you know it.

Kind of like any other Joni Mitchell albums. Few lackluster moments I didn't really gel with, such as the last track. Otherwise it kind of just works on the same foot as here follow up album, just a bit less enjoyable for me. Could be the fatigue or the fact that I've had a lot of good albums recently, but this particular one just does less compared to others.

No wonder this has such a low rating, this makes an effort to be as deterring to random people as possible. I can enjoy the noise though. Lack of vocals or any sort of form makes it harder to get anything out of it. The jamming here is quite good though, the proficiency and chaos is enjoyable to listen to. Multiple moments where I was really enjoying it.

Bizarre listen, eclectic to say the least. It's not afraid to make some bizarre noises and sometimes grating songs. It swings and misses a number of times, but the good songs here are really damn enjoyable. It's a bizarre concussion of noise that works surprisingly well as a beat. Enjoyable, if not something I'd listen to again.

Beats go kind of hard. Don't really like this much otherwise, just not really my thing. It does have some nice messaging too it, but the overall product just kind of feels flat and lifeless to me. Beyonce is sort of barely singing all the time and the pounding beats and long album length make it a tiresome listen.

I love this era of Samba and Salsa music. It’s very lively and creative. No idea what they sing about, but you don’t even really need to know in order to enjoy this album. Both performers are legends within their scene and rightfully so. I just really like all the little touches throughout, such as the police sirens and references to other classic songs. Good to see Latin music get some proper representation here, even though this is one of the only examples featured.

What a forward thinking album. All of this sounds like what the rest of the 60's was trying to catch up to. I don't care about Dylan's pure Folk era as much, but he really hit his stride here. Brilliant mix of songwriting here. The Band is really jamming it as well, the Electric Guitar throughout sounds really nice. A lot of these songs have since been played and covered into oblivion, sometimes better than the original, but the versions here are still great. Just a wonderful album. Don't think any song is as great of a statement as It's Alright Ma.

Really solid 80's album, while still being very 80's. In one of the worst era's of Pop music, this was a really welcome change of pace. World Music, Pop, Funk and lots of other stuff can be found here. I really like the hits on here most of all, but after a few listens the deep cuts start growing on me as well. It somehow manages to pick out the good parts of 80's kitsch and blend them together with a nice flavor of other genres in order to create something novel and familiar.

Solid effort, for a band that hadn't released an album in 20 years. The attitude towards Shoegaze really changed in the years leading up to it. This is nice enough, but can't really hang with their previous two albums. I can't pretend that I ever understood the lyrics in previous albums, but having them largely omitted from here kind of felt like the album was missing something. It still had a bunch of nice songs, mainly towards the beginning and end of the album, but it can't really hang with other My Bloody Valentine or peak Shoegaze stuff.

AjaSteely Dan

Rated 8/10

I find this album to be a bit overrated. Within the Steely Dan discography, I find it to be one of their weakest efforts. The entire album is just a bit too soft and downtempo for me and the cuts aren't as enjoyable as some of their other albums. That said, a bad Steely Dan album doesn't really exist. Perhaps my record was a flat sounding pressing as well, which didn't let me enjoy the audiophile grade quality this album brings with it. There's bops here, especially towards the end things get a bit groovier. My hot take is that the first side just is a bit lame.

Very joyeus album. Ray Charles always cooks and this one is no different. I don’t actually know if it’s a live album, but it certainly has the energy of one. I really like how he manages to transform these good but old sounding songs into something fresh and novel for the time. This is really the bridge begween the crooner era of the 50’s and the more Motown-Soul side of the 60’s. Important album, but besides that also just a good album.

Objectively, it's hard to find a flaw with this album. It sets out to do this sort of well produced, Folky sea shanty album and it succeeds at that. Reminds me most of the Cowboy Junkies, including a cover of a Velvet Underground song. I don't really click with it though. It had enough pleasant moments, but the entire album also brings a kind of boringness with it. It's a tad monotone and the production quality means it lacks a sort of rawness that I enjoy in Folk music.

Short album and very of its time. I quite enjoyed it. It starts off really strong with the beautiful build up of the first song, partially love it because it was the GTA V trailer song. After that it doesn’t really reach said high, but it stays enjoyable throughout. Lazy Sunday was good as well, as well as some other songs but I can’t really recall which. Just a good combination of lots of things that were in vogue in the 60’s, without sounding like a cliché.
