My favorite Brian Jones-era Stones album is, coincidentally, the one he worked on the least.
Jokes aside, Let It Bleed is the first album where the fierce blues really shows, other than Midnight Rambler which retains the psychedelic edge (because, it's one of the last songs Jones worked on). It starts and ends with the best songs on the album, with both adding distinct African American sounds to them: the blues in Gimmie Shelter, and gospel in the closer, You Can't Always Get What You Want.
The rest doesn't come close obviously, but are sufficient to create a great album. Side A trumps over side B, with sounds like Love in Vain (a personal favorite) and Let It Bleed occupying the side A end slot.
It's hedonism and drugs at it's finest (not at its most, you'll have to wait for that). It doesn't sacrifice their roots, and continues to add more upon the dirty, dusty Banquet sound, which is why Let It Bleed is personally my favorite Stones album.

This is a tough one. Love the first and last songs. Liked “you got the silver” well enough. Everything else, meh, except for pure hatred in my heart for “midnight rambler.” Felt like a 3/4 borderline case.

Ahh, The Rolling Stones...Again? This album is pretty much the same as every other Stones album: mediocre "white man blues" with a couple of good songs. If all of these albums have only a few good songs, why are all of them essential? This stupid band is the most overrated band of all time, and not just on this list. In general, they are not as good as most people say they are.

I just don't get the hype. Nothing about this so-called "critically acclaimed" band piques my interest.

Two of these songs are brilliant, the rest are whatever

Perhaps the band’s apotheosis, a diverse mix of songs showcasing their evolution as a capital R rock band. Setting the tone for their early seventies releases, while bookended by two of the great songs of the late 60’s. If they had included Honky Tonk Woman (instead of the somewhat flaccid Country Honk) it would be even further up critics’ best of lists.

Bit of a mixed bag for me - I liked a lot more of the stuff in the second half

I will never understand the adulation this band receives. They’re a middle of the road white boy blues band. Sure they had some hits but they constantly get put in the same ranks as the Beatles and that’s a crime. It’s like comparing AC/DC to Led Zeppelin, they’re both rock bands but one of them progressed and pushed boundaries, and the other had some hits but ultimately had their one sound and stuck with it. And I’m not knocking that, I like AC/DC, they’re great at what they do, they rock. But putting them in the same ranks as Zep would be disingenuous. Same goes for the Stones, they’re fine, I like a few songs, but they don’t deserve the pedigree they enjoy. This is their 8th album and it sounds like the seven that came before it. Country Honk was fun though.

Mostly I didn't like the bluesy and soul sounds

Stones går lenger enn Beatles i deres forsøk på å «get back».
«Gimme Shelter» og «You Can’t Always Get What You Want» løfter plata opp, og det trenger den egentlig. «Live With Me» funket faktisk bedre live i Shine A Light-filmen med Christina Aguilera som gjest.

What an epic track to start off the album. Fantastic record. I’ve been meaning to listen to all of The Rolling Stone’s discography. They’ve created so many masterpieces, it’s easy to see why they’re considered amongst the greatest.

My Fifth Stones album and the first one to get the full five stars.
This was a brilliant album. Where the others I’ve had have taken time to get into, this had me hooked from start to finish.
Top Track - Gimmie Shelter

five stars for gimme shelter and ycagwyw alone

there are some weak tracks, but the stones are legit

I'm wondering The Rolling Stones get so many comparisons to The Beatles. As someone who knows the latter but not the former, I expected something at least similar in sound to an early Beatles record. No, what I got was blues rock and typical early country. I am unfortunately not a fan.
It's not just that my expectations weren't met, it's also that I am not a fan of this genre in the first place. I don't like the styling of the songs, I don't like Mick Jagger's voice...it's not necessarily anything reprehensible, and I understand its inclusion on the list, but this is just so totally not my thing. Sorry y'all.
