EliminatorZZ Top

Rated 8/10

A classic no doubt, however I would say there are definitely 2 versions of band ZZ Top. First one being legendary 70s rock ensemble from Texas which I love very much so and then there's this 80s commercial resurgance. This is good stuff, but a bit too commercial and clean and really not as legendary as original run, therefore strong 4 stars for this one.

This is really interesting one to review and sadly last VU album for me on the list. After the banana, this is definitely my favourite album of theirs. Incredibly groundbreaking work of art. I already rated it at least 4.5 on RYM and was pondering between 4 and 5 stars but I think it deserves 5, just for the incredible krautrock like groove in Sister Ray. Some shocking stuff here too and highly experimental in nature so yeah I get it - it won't be for everyone but this music requires patience and open mind

Rain DogsTom Waits

I have almost no words to describe how I feel about another Waits masterpiece. Refer to my review of his previous album. This stuff really changed my perception of what good music should be. Extremely interesting, original, surreal work. Another easy 5 stars for Mr. Waits.
P.S. This happens to be the same LP which is placed on top of my record player and have been staring at me ever since I've started this list!

Iconic album with iconic cover for sure. However considering the similar music around, there have been quite a few better rock n roll albums, but just how 50s America decided to ignore that fact, seems like the list creators also decided that they don't exist.. This is solid, for sure 3 stars but I feel like a lot of non-original track here were done wy better by black artists - Billie Holiday's version of Blue Moon for example is superior. Anyway, probably 3.5 on RYM.

Aware of this underrated gem, however even if I listened to this before, it feels a bit dense to spend a day on this album and rate it properly and objectively. Only was aware of the first song so far. Definitely at least 3, maybe even 4 stars.

UPDATE: This is definitely the one that can keep growing if you just stay patient and soak it in slowly. More songs keep revealing themselves to me and going to my "Psychedelia" playlist. Every member of group has some bloody brilliant moments! So absolutely deserves 4 stars, and 3.5 or 4.0 on RYM, can't decide yet. Def one to REVISIT.

Never heard of this lady before, she has a really lovely voice though and this was very enjoyable listen on my way to work. To bad it's a bit too long and I didn't manage to finish it. But I might do so after work, probably around 3 stars as well.

Honestly quite an average 80s record, reminded me a bit of Talking Heads which is funny considering David Byrne is from scotland if I am not mistaken. This is not bad but nothing too great either, probablty down in the middle with 3 stars.

What a beautiful album, nothing quite like this one, but you can get close. Probably quite close to 5 stars as I have just rated 4.5 on RYM but I could see this bing perfect 5 no doubt.

Interesting mix of shoegaze, post-rock influences and obviously indie. Not too bad, but rather mediocre album. Some nice tracks, mostly 3 stars.

I never got into Incubus for some reason, in theory I should like them but this just strikes me as barely average alternative rock/metal album. I remember them as my guitar teacher's favourite band. At most 3 stars.

Ah, such a classic country sound, nice to listen on a sunny day on my way to the grinder. However nothing super special about this either, doesn't seem groundbreaking, definitely not in a way Hank Williams is. So probably 2, at most 3 stars.

Yet another live album, but I can understand the addition of this one. Sarah Vaughan ladies and gentlemen, what a voice. The recording quality and mixing is superb so if you couldn't hear the audience between the songs, you could hardly tell this is a live album. Anyway, strong 4 stars for this one.

Legendary bossa nova album, groundbreaking and beautiful work and colloboration between american jazz scene and brasilian samba to create something new and unique. Clearly easily at least 4 stars and 4.5 on RYM, but not sure if this will reach perfect 5 for me, maybe. P.S. After already multiple re-listens this morning, already being familiar well with this work and all, I decided that it really can reach 5 stars for one simple reason. When it comes to Bossa Nova there are a few great works to choose from, but this one will almost always be the premier choise when it comes to discovering the greatness of this genre. This is seminal work.

Never heard of this guy before, not super impressed. Seems like average countryish rock album, probably around 2 stars. Don't care to relisten after one listenm

Such an interesting, abrasive, groundbreaking record. Very cool stuff, but I feel it's not as fleshed out to reach a masterpiece for me and something I would listen constantly, but it's very cool nonetheless. Few tracks from this one are already in my post punk playlist. Definitely at least 3 stars here and 3.5 on RYM, we'll see I guess.

Great instrumental album, title track is absolutely legendary. I am enjoying the rest of the album as well, but like someone else has already said, I wish it would have more original compositions from the guys. So all in all, probably solid 4 stars.

Beautiful, simply beautiful. What can you even say about Ray Charles, this is album with a great impact to popular music and everything else that followed it. But despite me enjoying this very much, I am not sure if I will go to full 5 stars, definitely at least 4 but not sure why I am hesitant on top marks here despite loving Ray.

Never heard of this band from 60s, listened to this once on the way to work and honestly - not that impressed! Sounds a bit like your average 60s psych band, I might give it only 2 stars here, it's listenable and not terrible but nothing great either.
