This is my third Elvis album and i think it’s fair to say the first two have fallen short. ‘Blue Suede Shoe’ is very much what I want from an Elvis song, good old rock n roll.
‘I’m Counting on You’ is not however and at times I’m not even sure I would recognise it at his voice.
The rest of the album is ok but nothing spectacular

Back to the position of 'I like Elvis.... I don't *love* Elvis'.

Not a lot to say: it was perfectly pleasant, I didn't want to immediately turn it off, but I don't want to rush to put it on again either.

El Elvis original y más clásico. Me quedo con: Blue suede shoes, Tutti frutti, Blue moon y Money honey.

Rated 8/10

I'd say about half the album is great songs (led by Blue Suede Shoes) and the other half is more like filler, which is understandable for 1956.

Rated 4/10

This is the first Elvis album and therefore the beginning of the Elvis cultural construct. However, it's a pretty shit rockabilly album. It has some redeemable songs like "Blue Suede Shoes", but most of the album is samey-sounding crap. The vocals on this album range from mediocre to downright abysmal, and Elvis is very unconvincing as a bluesman. That means that the main reason for his success was a mixture of Jim Crow-era racism and clever marketing rather than any talent he may have had. Good God, I've had 2 Elvis albums and they both aged like milk.

This album is ranked #4 of 5 albums for 1956. Other 1956 albums rated by me:

Rated 6/10

Meh. Not as strong as his later material and I just found myself a bit bored.

His voice hasn't really developed into it's full potential yet either.

Important, but not great.

Very Elvis

Rated 6/10

Man this Elvis guy ain't half bad, I think he might be going places!

Rated 6/10

Iconic album with iconic cover for sure. However considering the similar music around, there have been quite a few better rock n roll albums, but just how 50s America decided to ignore that fact, seems like the list creators also decided that they don't exist.. This is solid, for sure 3 stars but I feel like a lot of non-original track here were done wy better by black artists - Billie Holiday's version of Blue Moon for example is superior. Anyway, probably 3.5 on RYM.

The roots of Rock n' Roll

Rated 6/10

I never listened to a full album by Elvis, just the songs my mom made me listen to! I can see why the kids (like her) loved him when he came out!

Rated 6/10

Whilst not his best performance, and far in quality from his live work, it is still one of the most significant albums in history. For that alone, it does deserve some recognition.

8/10 [KEEP]

Rated 6/10

Historically significant. Has one or two ok songs but the covers are truly awful. One sided love affair was the stand out worst song on here. 2.5/5. Raising to 3.

Rated 6/10

Don’t you fucking touch this man’s shoes!!!

Rated 4/10

Middling album. Mostly half arsed covers of novelty songs like Tutti Fruiti and Lawdy Miss Clawdy. Bland.

Rated 10/10

Elvis just has it.

Rated 6/10

Woah momma. Nice and short, gold voice and nice musics. There are better versions of these songs by other people sometimes, but as a a collective it's kinda good

Rated 6/10

Elvis is important, sure, and you can’t talk anbout record music without him. Otherwise, I didn’t want to and you can’t make me do it again.
