A canon event in everyone’s lives is hearing the song Hallelujah for the first time during the movie shrek, a song so perfect it could never be topped.
Until, 6 years earlier in 1994 Jeff Buckley decided to release his cover of the song, a rendition so powerful and passionate I can’t even remember what the shrek version sounds like and had gaslit myself into thinking they were one and the same.
Enough people have spoke about this version of the song being the peak performance of this song, what stands out most to me is how different it is from the original. The Leonard Cohen version sounds almost alien to this, despite still being a good song, it’s impossible not to compare the two and be disappointed by Cohens version.
Hallelujah isn’t even the best song on this album though. In my eyes that title belongs to So Real, although Grace and Lover, You Should’ve Come Over are very close behind it. When I first heard this album I had that song on repeat like crazy. The little riffs in the background on the acoustic guitar were honestly the best thing I’d ever heard.
Forget Her off of the bonus tracks is 100% worth finding and listening to if it isn’t on your streaming platform of choice by default (it’s the only version of the album available on Qobuz).
I do struggle to understand and appreciate Corpus Christi Carol though, I know it’s another cover, but it always just takes me out of the flow of the album.
Still a five though.

Don’t really get Sonic youth or “noise rock” in general but I didn’t hate this

Sounds a bit dated at times, I feel like I struggle to enjoy a lot of this era of hip hop but I can appreciate its impact
Not sure Jurassic 5 needed more than one album on this list, I did prefer the other one

Some very catchy stuff on here, I’ll probably have to come back to this to properly appreciate it

Not really what I was hoping for. I didn’t dislike any of it but seeing the genres and description got me excited

Didn’t click with me, spent most of the album waiting for it to finish

Aye pretty solid
I liked this a lot more when I listened to it for the AM top 100, feel like the repeated listens since then has dragged it down a little bit but it’s still really really good

I’ve never actually heard this all the way through before, it started off really strong but did kind of drone off in the second half of the album
Some proper bangers on here though

NEWCASTLE MENTIONED PART 7(?)
Very loud, possibly a little much at times, not particularly my sort of music and it doesn’t have anywhere near as much of the details that make master of puppets good

The best completely new (to me) thing this list has given me so far. I have no idea how I’d never even heard of this yet, everything about this album like the genres and description sound absolutely up my street.
Almost psychedelic country rock that is just so so catchy, it’s been stuck in my since listening to it. I clicked instantly with over half of the songs, loving them from the get go, and over 2 more listens through this I’ve clicked with the other half.
This album is incredible

This has some really really excellent tracks on it but even though this is a double album it’s way too bloated
I’m pretty sure this is the first physical album I ever bought myself, from a charity shop, at least 15 years ago. And this is the first time I’ve ever gotten through this start to finish. For a long time I wasn’t even aware that Hey ya was on this album.
With most (all) of the interludes, and maybe a handful of tracks also, this could be an incredible album though. I still think I’d prefer aquemini, but this does have the higher highs of roses and hey ya on it.

Ever since YouTube cooking start Adam Ragusa randomly made a video about Metallica and I decided to give them a go I have came back to this album specifically time and time again
I’m not normally into metal but this is just a masterpiece, each song is very long but none of them feel too long
Favs: Leper Messiah, Orion

Kinda surprised to see this was on here when he has much better reviewed albums but this is only album 1 of 5 on the list

I don’t think I’ll ever not enjoy Johnny cash but did we need 2 different live prison albums on the list?
Playing the title track a second time after asking the guards for a glass of water is pretty hilarious though

Today was a good day gets this at least a 3.5 for being probably a top 10 hip hop song ever
None of the rest of this was bad but just didn’t really stand out much
I feel like the inserts were very political but then none of the lyrics in the actual songs were that political? Maybe I wasn’t listening close enough to some of the lyrics idk
