OrbitalOrbital

Rated 4/10

Not a fan of early electronic, personally. Uncomfortable to listen to. "Halcyon + On + On" is genuinely beautiful. Only track I knew before this and I still love it. While I appreciate Orbital for their influence on the genre, I don't personally love their stuff.

This was alright. I'm not the biggest hardcore, but I did enjoy a lot of the structure of these tracks. Math rock sounding kind of post-hardcore whatever you want to call it. I can dig it.

Didn't love the vocalist. I would've enjoyed these more if they were just instrumental. The best tracks were those largely without vocals... I was honestly a bit disappointed whenever the dude started belting out lines.

TommyThe Who

Rated 4/10

A weaker The Who album, imo. Mostly a bunch of musically faffing about. Movie was better, but even then it didn't blow me away. Tina Turner was fun in it.

Couple decent tracks, like "Pinball Wizard", but mostly forgettable.

Love this. I'm not a big prog rock fan, but this was my introduction to the genre and it's never been topped.

No skips. Epitaph and Court of Crimson King are my favourite. Only bit I'm not a fan off is that bit of ambient dead noise lingering after Moonchild, but it works in context of the album.

Man, it's kind of blowing me away how much I like this album. I'd only heard "Midnight to Midnight" before and, well, I was underwhelmed. Kind of just wrote off the whole band and never thought anything of it. This is album is phenomenal. Just consistently listenable post-punk new wave kind of stuff. I realize I've heard "Pretty in Pink" before, never put together it was Psychedelic Furs... again though the whole album rules.

Solid album. Though sometimes the albums feel a bit all over the place. Some of the drum tracks in particular are really grating. Others are sublime though. For every track I needed to skip partway through there was another that just gripped me. "People Everyday" was a standout. Great female vocals throughout. The singer on "Tennessee" is amazing.

Great album. Very listenable. I don't have any nostalgia for the Beatles, not really getting into them until my late 20s, but this is easily one of their better albums.

Never been a fan of the Bob Marley I've heard on the radio, so I figured I wasn't a big fan. First few songs of this album are great though. It kind of peters out for me, though. At the very least this album confirms I like Bob Marley more than I thought I did.

Ha, I've heard so many of these songs before in movies. They're alright. Bit too soft rock for my tastes, but there's a lot to like here. Does become a bit like background music though.

(GI)Germs

Rated 4/10

One of those albums where I appreciate their significance in shaping the musical landscape (lots of bands I love were directly influence by Germs) but that I don't really enjoy listening to. Lots of early punk I just find sonically unlistenable. Richie Dagger' Crime is pretty decent...

Hey, this is real great! As someone who is not a big Smiths fan, this just hit all the right points for me. Very listenable. I felt the quality tapered off towards the end but the first 2/3rds are just banger after banger.

I'm not an industrial music fan. This isn't really for me. A lot of it I just find unpleasant to listen to.

There's a run of tracks (Hometime, AB/7A, E-Coli) that I thought were pretty decent. Reminded me of experimental bands like Set Fire to Flames or Thee Silver Mt. Zion, but then it becomes to cacophonous.

First full length Queen album I've ever listened to. Was never a big fan growing up... but their singles have grown on me as I've gotten older.

This album is great, though. While I simultaneously can't believe I've slept on Queen for so long, I don't know that I would've appreciated them before.

TenPearl Jam

Rated 6/10

I'm not a big Pearl Jam fan and this is probably the most Pearl Jam album. It's alright. I've heard it all way too much and it has never resonated with me like some people. None of the Pearl Jam songs I actually really like are on here... but it is alright. Solid background listen.

Ahh, this is really good. I'm almost taken aback. Like, I don't really know jazz at all, but this album feels really ahead of its time. I'm listening to it and being reminded of all the modern experimental and post-rock bands I adore. There has to be some sort of influence here, damn. Really fresh and exciting to listen to. Maybe it turns out I like jazz?
