Very much a product of its time. So 90s in the best and worst ways. It’s also hilarious how Snoop Dogg’s reputation has basically done a complete 180. He used to be an actual gangster and spent time in jail and now he’s hosting stuff at the olympics and has a kids youtube channel

This is pretty solid but standard bluesy jams and then you get to Whipping Post and it blows the rest of the album completely out of the water. It’s worth a listen just for Whipping Post

Rod Stewart seems to exist solely to be filler on classic rock radio. But even then I can’t remember hearing any song of his. Not the worst thing ever but kind of pointless

I was expecting more straightforward punk but this mixed in a lot more sounds and genres and felt deeper and darker because of it

Neil Young is one of my favorite artists and there are like 4 or 5 of his albums that I’d pick between being my favorite. After the Gold Rush is one of those and every listen makes it feel even more perfect

DoolittlePixies

Rated 10/10

One of my absolute favorite albums and potentially the one I’ve listened to more than any other. Each song is so unique and memorable on their own but add to the full experience

I’m still not convinced a 9 minute punk song works, but the two on American Idiot are probably the closest anyone’s ever going to get. I was familiar with the bigger hits off this but the other songs are basically just as good too

I bet that if I listened to this high on ecstasy in a club surrounded by other people dancing it’d be a pretty great album. Unfortunately I’m listening to it cold dead sober in my living room surrounded only by my sleeping dogs

I don’t think I’ve ever actually listened to the entirety of Le Freak before and I never really needed to. This whole album feels like that. There are good moments but you hear them once and kind of get it

BEYONCÉBeyoncé

Rated 6/10

It seems weird that at some point Beyonce got this like cult of personality around her. People treat her like she’s the second coming of Christ or something. Her music is fine but it doesn’t really seem to stand above other similar pop music

This one is teetering on being a 5. There’s just a few songs that kind of hold it back. Mother being by far the worst one

I like Bonny Womack but I’ve only listened to his 60s/70s stuff before. This album feels a bit too polished and overproduced. It’s still good but he’s done way better

DummyPortishead

Rated 8/10

Something I wouldn’t regularly listen to, but Portishead certainly has a downbeat vibe that I can kind of groove with

I had a pretty great music discovery yesterday with the surprisingly very gay Handshake Song from the Great British Bake Off musical. On the other hand, Close to the Edge by Yes was not a great music discovery for me in any way

Despite being like 2 solo albums put together, this works as a whole. They do sound like distinct things but they still complement each other. Also for a 2 hour album there’s hardly any duds on here, and those are basically the skits/interlude tracks
