Like a predecessor of beastie boys, with lots of 80s elements. This is def an album on here because it's important for a genre, and not because it stands the test of time on its own. Not bad, not great, 2*

Huh, the prowler riff was ripped off by papa roach for between angels and insects! Good guitar-y things, but it's still dad rock, which I'm not a fan of. 3*

Second MBV album -- again thought it was an emo band but it's 90s alternative. Found this on youtube, not apple music. It's alright, not sure we needed multiple albums of theirs on here.

Old timey jazz singing. Not bad, made me think of Fallout, which gets it points in my book. 3*
Bleep bloop music. Honestly enjoyed it more than the reviews led me to believe I would, but some of it kind of escaped me. It feels like a spiritual predecessor to tame impala or lcd soundsystem. 4*

I don't get the hate, seems like an album of lounge classics and brings Jobim to the American masses (I guess, no idea). Maybe not the best take on bossa nova, but we 900+ albums in I already know this is full of white-washed albums. As a standalone listen, this was 4*
Highlight: girl from ipanema (carries the album tbh)
Rated 2/10
Garbage, should have been forgotten in the 60s. 1*

Not sure it's for me. She has a nice voice, but it all kind of came and went for me. Lounge-y music. 2*

Why is this on here? I did a double take at the hanky panky song. Hardly passable album, so mediocre.
Rated 6/10
Good times is way longer than I thought, classic though. I guess that outside the upbeat stuff, idk what disco is supposed to sound like. This was ok, no shade to disco.

I'm confused by the people saying it's elevator music -- what kind of elevators are y'all in?
This tries to be quirky, reggae-ish, ska-ish. It's fine, not worthy of this list IMO.
Rated 6/10
I'm not one to judge hip hop, this was alright, but maybe not something I'd revisit. 3*

This one has some bangers, but maybe it's more nostalgia than anything else. All sounds like very same-y dad rock, and I didn't discover new songs to like.
Highlights: livin on a prayer (always fun to belt out in a crowd), you give love a bad name, wanted dead or alive
Rated 8/10
The kind of album I do this project for -- would have never known about it. Sounded very medieval-folksy. I don't think I'll revisit, but I enjoyed it.
Rated 4/10
Wasn't bad but not for me, unclear why on this list. 2*

My review for "a rush of blood to the head" by coldplay got lost, so here that goes for posterity: That was a 5/5 for me because I love early coldplay and there are so many iconic songs in this album. I loved how layered their songs get based on simple riffs. A melancholy album. Highlights: clocks, the scientist, in my place, warning sign
The last of the true believers is, however, a country album. I deeply dislike country, and this album is not the exception.
Rated 4/10
This is repetitive techno that doesn't quite have the same flavor and punch as later FBS stuff. Sounds like an album of samples for other things.
Rated 8/10
The beach boys in their OG form, finally! Fun fact, I got WAY more into the Beach Boys after watching LOST (IYKYK). Still, lots of new songs (to me) here. I enjoyed it, but no new songs popped out as favorites to me, so for me I think it's only 4*, maybe because it was great for its time, but now sounds just ok.
Highlights: wouldnt it be nice, god only knows
Rated 4/10
I feel like I def already reviewed this, but then I went on vacation for 2 weeks and here I am listening to it again.
80s synth electronic. I almost lost it when I thought it was yet another Randy Newman album.
But yeah, nothing special, all the same.

They play this at the spa when I'm getting a massage (I thought for the first two tracks).
I don't mind the ambient-y stuff, but didn't enjoy the vocalizations in leb wohl/hero. That really took it down a point for me, 2*
