GracelandPaul Simon

Rated 8/10

Hey there Mr. Jambo! Out there in the African sun! Do you ever get tired?

I can definitely see the accusations of cultural appropriation in here, but I'll file this down to "ignorant" rather than "meant to be racist as shit."

Purely on a musical basis, it's quite decent. Simon has a nice voice to listen to, and I have to admit that the record does its damnest to make the Zulu singing and three-chord structure sync well.

DrunkThundercat

Rated 8/10

Funky and groovy as shit, man. I know Thundercat from some songs, so getting to explore a full album of his was great. I do notice that most of it is the same vibe, it's only when Them Changes plays that there's a whiff of uniqueness.

Quite groovy to listen to! I do relate to some of the critique that it gets a bit long and the quasi-religious chanting gets a bit too much after a while. But I've heard far worse in this challenge.

KonnichiwaSkepta

Rated 6/10

Influential in the sense that grime got sent into the global market through this album, but it's just not my jam.

The type of album that you'd hear in a clothing store while you have to wait for your mom to pick out her shopping. Dreadfully boring, but it's fun to jam with at least.

The CarsThe Cars

Rated 6/10

A car ride that just passes you by without further thoughts rather than a high-octane drive into the sunset. But hey, at least it didn't crash!

Wild GiftX

Rated 6/10

Some good rock here and there, but the vocals rubbed me the wrong way.

Great charm, and an important album to listen to. This is the kind of historical, deeply cultural albums that I started this challenge for.

Great, but I appreciated Dookie's raw, unfiltered punkness much more than this: which is a tad more cleaner and more polished. I want some gritty punk, man!

The SliderT. Rex

Rated 6/10

Pretty alright. I prefer the more higher tempo rock songs than the quirky ballads on here.

Rated 8/10

Melancholic, gloomy, and well sung. The only thing that discredits it to me is that it was a Disney song at every step, but for the most part, I enjoyed the poetic lyrics and the profound song meanings.
