Loved this in those heady, trilbied days. Giving it another listen is a little painful now though. Some great singles that I think stand up. But too much skippable filler like 'Don't Be Shy', 'Narcissist' and 'Campaign of Hate'. Rushed out, underthought and overlong.

More than a couple of times I thought "Hey, this instrumental bit is really nice and interesting and well played and well produced - maybe I'm a Neil Young guy again!"

Then those vocals come in like a teenage cat whose voice is breaking at the same as it is scratching its claws on a blackboard.

Will take Country House over Country Home any day.

Great pop record. I feel Hole should have featured more in my life at the time. I think I was still probably in my Boyzone, Savage Garden, Lighthouse Family era.

Always find this a hard one to connect with despite its legendary status and the talent involved. Maybe it's been parodied too much? Just can't really listen to Save The Children with a straight face.

Electro-Shock Blues is a top 20 album for me. This is still great but (unsurprisingly) doesn't have that record's emotional heft. Good to catch up again in any case.

The most I've enjoyed a grunge album on this list. Definitely more melodic and lyrically interesting than any of the others I've encountered.

Loved this when I was 17 (and eligible for a Teenage Riot). But the older I get, the less time I have for bad singing voices. Sorry Thurston and Kim.

Maybe the most indulgent record ever made. I don't mind it though. He's got a proper ear for melody and a real desire to make music as interesting as possible based on whatever he has access to.
