Yes, as much respect as Ella Fitzgerald deserves (and she has all my respect—what a voice, what a talented woman she was!), this compilation shouldn’t be here. I agree with the guy who gave it a low rating—my attempt to listen to this entire box set failed miserably!

So, I’m not going to pretend to be a connoisseur just for the sake of it, just to avoid going against the grain: there are albums that deserve to be here more, given the criteria the author of this list himself laid out :-(

Although I recognize the influence and the whole aura surrounding this album - and I love the Beastie Boys’ later work! - I don’t think this album has aged very well!

Or maybe it’s just me who’s definitely getting older. A 4 for the genius, caustic humor, and influence of the time, but today, listening to it brought back memories - not all of them good. My favorite track was never “Fight for Your Right (To Party)”; I prefer “No Sleep Till Brooklyn.” Special mention also goes to “Paul Revere.”

And that’s it. Next ;-)

It adds nothing to the list. The RS’s original work is one thing; this album is another—nothing more than covers that, as someone noted in the reviews, are “covers of songs by Black musicians who did them better.”

Beautiful voice, super mellow tracks... but why do they have to be so loooooooooooooong?

Man, it’s impossible to listen to and fully enjoy this—after a few minutes, you just fall asleep. No, it’s not essential to listen to this, just as it’s not essential to include it on a list like this.

But, I repeat, nice voice, very much in the style of Björk, except… nah, I can’t bring myself to give it more than a 2 :-(

I listened to the album in its entirety for the first time, and it is, without a shadow of a doubt, a solid 5. Beyond that, it also made me wonder if I haven’t been giving too many 5s to a whole series of albums that I didn’t enjoy as much as I enjoyed this one. Definitely an album to listen to before my journey in this world comes to an end ;-)

Favorite songs: all of them - it’s impossible to pick just one! Still, I’d especially highlight Ratamhatta, Roots Bloody Roots, Itsári, and Canyon Jam

This one’s not for me, sorry. Another album I don’t understand why it’s here. But then again, who am I to decide who deserves a spot on this list?

It was a huge struggle to get to the end, but I made it… though I think I lost a lot of blood, because I feel pretty weak :-(

Yes, too much swearing - “b******,” “n******,” “who**s,” and so on - bothers me in songs! It’s one thing if they pop up once or twice, but when it’s systematic and not a single song leaves them out, that’s just noise pollution!

So, I borrowed the following sentence from another user review, simply because I couldn't have put it any better myself ;-)

«It’s both a 5 and a 1 at the same time so I’ll put a 3 and be done with it.»

1) um álbum ao vivo não deveria fazer parte de uma lista deste tipo! Uma coisa é ir ao vivo ouvir, ver, sentir a experiência, vibrar com tudo o que ali se passa! Ouvir um álbum ao vivo é lidar, como foi neste caso, com imensos problemas;

2) Como estava irritado com a minha sorte por ter tido este álbum, fui pesquisar e aprendi que na 2ª parte o Bob foi vaiado e o espetáculo foi tudo menos bonito! Saber que este disco foi editado e que se perde todo esse registo é má-fé, é uma autêntica batota. Por isso, a minha opinião de que este disco não deveria estar nesta lista e que esta experiência foi tudo menos agradável, sai reforçada;

It’s a bit hard for me to give Bob this “rating,” since it’s a classic and its value is priceless — no one disputes that. However, I must say a few things, because the experience of listening to this album was truly difficult and distressing:

1) A live album shouldn’t be on a list like this! It’s one thing to go to a live show to hear, see, and feel the experience, to get swept up in everything that’s happening there! Listening to a live album means dealing with, as was the case here, a ton of problems;

2) Since I was annoyed with my luck for having gotten this album, I did some research and learned that during the second set, Bob was booed and the show was anything but pleasant! Knowing that this album was released and that all of that is lost is bad faith; it’s a total rip-off. Therefore, my opinion that this album shouldn’t be on this list and that this experience was anything but pleasant is reinforced;

3) The recording is extremely long. Listening to Bob’s nasal voice for an hour and a half, plus the harmonica and whatever else, for an hour and a half ceases to be art and becomes torture.

I could go on, but I think these reasons are enough to say, with complete certainty and in full possession of my mental faculties—“sorry, Bob, but I’d rather die than listen to this again”

1/5 (can you give a zero? For a second, I wanted to give it a zero :-( )

I get that this had its moment, that it was somehow really important back then... but it’s just not for me; it’s the kind of album I wouldn’t mind never having heard

2/5

Because I wanted it to end, but, seriously, there are much worse albums on this list, so giving it a 1 would be an overreaction

Yet another 5/5 rating (am I being too much generous with my ratings? Or am I being so lucky with the albums the generator is throwing at me?!?!)

But seriously, when I hear something that could have been produced 2, 3, or 10 years ago and it captivates me, and then I look it up and realize it was produced 40, 50, or 70 years ago, that’s how you know something has aged well. With this album, I felt exactly that! Although it’s not my favorite genre, this lady’s jazzy voice and the beautiful melodies were a wonderful experience.

My rating is based on what Miles Davis represents, on his importance to music, and also on this Sunday, since it seemed like the perfect choice for the day! I think I was in the right frame of mind to listen to this; if I wasn’t, then this album put me in a good mood - as if the generator were some kind of wizard, sending the right albums at the perfect moment.

In any case, a great choice, a great album, and an album everyone should listen to before they die ;-)

These past few days have been a real treat - this is the third day in a row of 5-star albums.

I first heard a few tracks from this album a long time ago, back when I was in college (yes, I’m that old!).

It wasn’t until a few years later that I listened to the album in its entirety; since then, I’ve listened to it a few more times. It’s one of those albums that never seems to age; it brings back so many good (in my case!) memories—more than enough reasons for it to be a true classic.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, as expected

Is there anything left to say? It's a classic, of course it's an album you should listen to before you die

The Pet Shop Boys are one of those bands that many people hate. However, they’re a band that has created some of the purest, most wonderful, fun, and danceable songs ever! For all that, I give them 5 stars—even if this isn’t my favorite album of theirs.

I hadn’t listened to their music in years, so this was a wonderful way to (re)connect with old memories and better times. Thank you to this project for giving me this—unlike many other albums that, honestly, I don’t understand why they’re on this list, I’m happy to find the Pet Shop Boys here :-)

Rated 10/10

It's Prince, it's 1999, it's great... it's a classic!

I've read some reviews before posting mine and let me tell - there's a lot worst, way worst than this on this list! So, if there's to be lots and lots of britpop, let them be from these guys.

A solid 4 from me... but as with other reviews I've made, probably I'm being biased ;-)

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions, telling me to check out their earlier work! I ended up loving their EP *The Verve* and also *A Storm in Heaven* - I loved them, and I think I have to agree with that whole “why on earth aren’t those on the list instead of this one?” sentiment

Anyway, I’m giving it a 2 for now, but eventually I’ll try listening to it again - maybe I’m being unfair.

Not my favourite nor his best IMHO

So, I'll stick with a 3/5. Also, it didn't help the day I got this, it was not the best day to listen to it. Again, sorry :-(

Although I find this quite original, I’m not going to give it 5 stars, because I prefer to think of Korn as the definitive icons of nu-metal.

Besides, it’s the kind of music you can’t listen to on repeat—I think I’d end up with a terrible headache and a general sense of hostility toward everything around me!

Which is definitely not what I want :-(

Psychosocial, although it’s the track heard most often on the playlists I’ve seen, isn’t, in my opinion, the best track on this album, IMHO
