This is a good album. More dynamic than Pure Heroine and a better showcase for her vocals. The production is good here too. Super 2010’s sad girl. Favorites were Green Light, Homemade Dynamite, Hard Feelings/Loveless, and Perfect Places.

This maintains a smooth and laid back vibe the entire time. Beats are consistently solid and her vocals are the real highlight here. Some of these just kinda come and go for me and I almost expected more from such an acclaimed album. Favorites were Sock It To Me, The Rain, Pass Da Blunt, and Gettaway.

This is a great album. Every track ebbs and flows with changes in tempo and time signature keeping everything moving. So much to sink your teeth into. I like the climax of Washer and how the guitar just rips through everything else. Favorite songs were Breadcrumb Trail, Nosferatu Man, Washer, and Good Morning, Captain.

Does this album feature the only appearance of Dave Matthews on the list? It’s gets bonus points if so and also just because My Antonia is excellent. This whole album sounds very warm. Her vocals are excellent and I really dig this style. Maybe a little long. Favorites were I Don’t Wanna Talk About It Now, One Big Love, and My Antonia.

This was overall better than Kala for me. The beats are bombastic and her vocals maintain a good rhythm that keeps everything moving. Favorites were Pull Up The People, Sunshowers, Bingo, and U.R.A.Q.T.

I’m just a silly American who cannot comprehend Britpop, but boy oh boy do I like that “Woo hoo” song. This is very stylistically diverse in a good way. I really like the songs that begin acoustic and build as they go on. Favorites were Beetlebum, Song 2, On Your Own, You’re So Great, Look Inside America, and Movin’ On.

This is a great album. I hear shades of Big Star and the Stones in lots of these songs. Love the guitar tone and the power pop melodies. Favorites were The Concept, December, What You Do To Me, Star Sign, Pet Rock, and Is This Music?

Figure 8Elliott Smith

Rated 10/10

I never knew I liked Elliott Smith until we got generated Either/Or(that one is a little better). This just confirms it because I thought this was excellent. The instrumentals are larger and denser here which really complements the softness of his voice and his songwriting. Just fantastic from front to back.

Very clearly a transitional album for the band moving away from their simpler pop roots into a more experimental direction. Some of the songs here are all timers and some are just good to me. Probably my fifth favorite Beatles album. Favorites were Drive My Car, Norwegian Wood, You Won’t See Me, Michelle, and In My Life.

This album is the color of dusk. This shit is dusty. Smells like sawdust. Tastes like whiskey. Bob’s aged voice fits his songwriting perfectly. I had no idea he wrote Make You Feel My Love. Truly the greatest living American songwriter.

This is an album that, by my own conditions, I should hate, but I’m a man without conviction. I’m a man who doesn’t know How to sell a contradiction. I liked this despite the cheesy lyrics and dated production. Partly because I’ve heard Karma Chameleon so many times. This makes me feel like I need to be driving the smallest car you have ever seen along a winding seaside road. Favorites were Karma Chameleon, It’s A Miracle, and Church Of The Poison Mind.

Despite being a film soundtrack this is still incredibly relistenable. Incredible album. The drums, the brass, the bass, the vocals, everything is soulful and sounds crispy as hell. This is political and gets its message across without relying on cheap rage.

This is a really good collection of songs. These also just hold up really well. Absolutely exuberant. I don’t think I liked this quite as much as Arthur but this is definitely the same tier. Favorites were the title track, Do You Remember Walter?, Johnny Thunder, Last Of The Steam-powered Trains, Animal Farm, and Starstruck.

Excellent showcase for one of the best to ever pick up a guitar. The other members of the band also get their own time to shine here. Just a fantastic double album. The extended songs feel meaty. And who can forever his version of All Along The Watchtower.

Rated 6/10

Of course I’ve heard this before. I have been on the planet at some point in the last 12 years. It’s an impressive feat to make an album where a majority of the songs were hits. I just think the over saturation has dampened my enjoyment for this album. I think the hits here are better, but the deeper cuts are weaker when comparing this to Red. Probably by fourth or fifth favorite album by her. I could go back and forth debating between this and Evermore, but Speak Now, Folklore, and Red are a pretty buttoned up top three. Anyway, this album is good, the songs are well written and produced, the Taylor’s Version is worse than the original, and the “sick beat” promised on Shake It Off is laughable.

It’s crazy watching how my taste has evolved throughout this whole process and how my opinions can change. I went back and listened to Music From Big Pink again. What the fuck was I smoking when I wrote the review for it? Banger after banger after banger, and you know what? They topped it here. I listened to this four times today. They weren’t in a row because I stopped after two to listen to the four hour deluxe edition of The Last Waltz. The essence of America can only be understood by Canadians.

Hear me out on this one… is this something I would be listening to every day? Hell no. But the sonic experimentation with noises and metal are really interesting and the repetition can be somewhat hypnotic. Most of these aren’t songs, but I’m really glad I listened. Favorites were U-Haft-Muzak, Kollaps, and Spionagedub.

Perfectly pleasant instrumentals. I think I would have liked this a whole lot more if his voice wasn’t quite so plain. Likes it’s serviceable but I forgot the vocal performances about as quick as they left my ears. Favorite song was I Hear You Knockin’.

I have never heard of this album or this band. Are these guys aware MGMT made Little Dark Age fourth months earlier? This is just that but not quite as good. Like it’s fine but there are better albums in this same style. Favorite song was Opener.
