Better than Coldplay

I love heavy acid rock and I like this record, but I can also acknowledge it's fairly second rate and unmemorable (other than the title track of course). I've had this LP since high school and I couldn't have named another track on it. But I liked listening to it and it's more "good enough if you're into 60s rock" than essential listening.

Hard to rate this one. Songs were fine - had potential but something lacked

Got incredibly annoying towards the end

Too corny. The lead vocal is annoying. The riffs are recycled. Loads of superior music was made in the 60s.

Rated 4/10

If you wanna listen to "classic rock" you can do so much better than this.

Rated 2/10

For the best bit of the album to be the final 30 seconds of a 17 minute song?

Rated 4/10

Hey I usually really love dumb boomer shit, but I just can't with this. (That being said, I'm pretty impressed by the bass groove dude was laying down around minute 13 of the title track.)

Rated 6/10

Wait a minute. This is rock and/or roll.

How had I never heard of this band? They are a more jam-led Doors contemporary with creeping, Sunday service-like keys, phenomenally powerful vocals and hefty, mean sounding guitars. I love how these sprawling songs are composed but how they get a bit edgy and experimental in places. Not every Doors album is in this ball park but my favourite ones are, so it's wonderful stumbling on to a classic album which is totally my vibe.

Growing up in the 70s I was obviously familiar with the title track. And I thought "Iron Butterfly" was the most badass band name I ever heard. When this popped up I was excited for the classic title track and learning what else the album had to offer. Then I listened. The first side is so bad that it might as well be a parody. And as an adult, it turns out that the title track is just as stupid. Came in expecting to give 4 or 5. Now I can't even justify a 3.

Rated 6/10

Good grungy hard rock, innovative in its day.

Rated 6/10

I'm really only aware of the title track, and otherwise this is my first time listening to this album start-to-finish.

This is just kind of psychedelic meh. It seems a bit self-indulgent most of the time.

Rated 6/10

The three-est three star to ever three

Rated 2/10

Just droning 60s psychedelic rock. The only positive i can offer is that the keyboards sound like the Doors. Oyher than that the title track is catchy but unnecessarily long

I hated how track one, Most Anything You Want is mixed. Listening with earphones on means all of the bassy low notes are in your right ear and all the high notes and backing vocals are in the left. It made it feel like my right ear was on the verge of popping throughout the full length of the song.

Then track two started and I realised we were going to have every song with some instruments tracked very far to the right and others very far to the left; at least that one wasn't uncomfortable.

I don't think I'll ever understand the thought process that leads to an a-side made up of mostly 3 minute ditties and a b-side that consists of a 17 minute single song. Although given my previous complaints about things feeling unbalanced, it seems weirdly consistent in its inconsistency.

I quite like the lead vocals, but actually really like the backing vocals in comparison. There's a lot of needless noodling in guitar, organ and bass form, throughout though, which I complain about all the time. You can't deny the riff in the title track though - that's a great hook. Not good enough for a 17 minute track obviously, but a great hook. Not really sure why that song briefly ended up turning into "God rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" in the last third either.

Another album I can't say I particularly enjoyed:
