Very few can do what Kanye can he is that talented . It’s a pity his contemporaries are all bellends as well . He is ratified company with the like of Morrissey, Kid rock, and that guy from Pantera

Love the art hate the artist

Kayne's best album, some absolute bangers on here. Shame his brain turned into racism goop.

Rated 6/10

Some bits are great. Other parts are irritating.

I was absolutely dreading this album. I'm not a Kanye fan so the prospect of spending over an hour listening to him wasn't filling me with excitement. Joke's on me because this album absolutely slaps.
The rapping, the singing, the insane production, the guest appearances, the experimentation.... it all works. "Power" and "Runaway" are phenomenal, and "All of the lights" isn't far behind. By 2010 Kanye had enough fame to do whatever the hell he wanted & rather than play it safe, he took some enormous swings. He connected on just about all of them. Even the weird stuff kept me interested and the closing track caught me off guard but I enjoyed the message.
Are some of the lyrics questionable? Absolutely. Is Kanye a douche? Undoubtedly. Am I slightly annoyed that I now have to give him one of my rare five-star ratings? You bet.
But credit where it's due. I went into this expecting an endurance test and came out wondering if I'd just heard one of the best hip-hop albums ever made.
5/5. I hate that I loved it.

MBDTF may have been his cultural peak, but in my opinion it is Late Registration that is his actual creative peak. Sadly, LR isnt on the list.

Rated 4/10

Music was fine but I cringed so hard at the lyrics, which made it impossible to separate art from the artist. I'm honestly relieved that this is not my genre to begin with.

Rated 6/10

Ahh, Kanye. He made a few beloved albums and then started spouting extreme-right viewpoints that hurt his own kind. Granted, this is a pretty good rap album. There is some disgusting lyrical content here, but there's also some very cool samples and unique beats. Features appear frequently across all the songs, often helping them to sound more unique. Either way, it's very different from the gangster rap of the 1990s. For his music to be good and then his political beliefs to be so abhorrent is a tragedy.

This album is ranked #4 of 8 albums for 2010. Other 2010 albums rated by me:
Brothers(1/8)-3
The ArchAndroid(3/8)-5
Queen of Denmark(7/8)-4
Halcyon Digest(8/8)-2

Very much a microcosm of Kanye himself, this is opulent and overproduced. You cannot dismiss it because it definitely has moments of brilliance, but there’s so much extra bullshit that you have to sift through in order to find those highlights, it really isn’t worth it. An exercise in tolerance that I lose every time I try to listen all the way through.

Another reminder that Kanye really had it. This isn't my scene in general, but there's some excellent tracks on here (I particularly liked the double-header of Runaway and Hell of a Life). The production is top notch, and there's tons of variation in the delivery across the whole album. It's really propulsive, with tons of interesting flourishes throughout.

Rated 6/10

This album starts out strong and then drops in the middle and then it strengthens back up in the end. I like the singing songs better than the rap songs.

Rated 2/10

Fuck Kanye and anyone who still listens to this pos.

0 stars if I could.

Rated 6/10

I wish I could give it the 5 it deserves. Oh well.

I see we've arrived at the classic consideration of whether or not to separate the art from the artist. Kanye West is, without question, an absolute piece of shit. I don't pay him much attention, so I don't know if it's all an act to be edgy for attention, or if he is just genuinely a shitty person, but either way fuck that guy.

And it's a shame too, because while I am not a hiphophead, I can recognize that there is true artistry & talent on display with this album. I probably would have rated this higher without the baggage of the artist to go with it.

Rated 10/10

A true no-skipper. He did his damn thing on this album.

This album reaches some incredible heights. The bigger they are, I suppose...

I hate how much I still like this because the artist is such a repulsive human being, but I have to admit that My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is an absolute maximalist masterpiece. It is incredibly difficult to separate the art from the artist, especially when that artist has devolved into a narcissistic, antisemitic shell of his former self. The production is just insane, it's this huge, over-the-top wall of sound that hits perfectly, from the horns on "All Of The Lights" to the lonesome piano on "Runaway." The ambition here is on another level.

Honestly, the features are what make this record hold up. Nicki’s verse on "Monster" is legendary (another one who fell off the crazy deep end), and Rick Ross and Bon Iver just kill it on their tracks. Looking back, the lyrics about fame and spiraling feel pretty prophetic, which makes it a super uncomfortable listen today. I really wanted to rate this low out of principle like I have in the past, but strictly for the art and how big of a mark it left on music, I’m giving it a reluctant five stars.

Rated 10/10

Oh, Kanye, why did you have to make such good albums? At least with Kid Rock, I could separate the art from the artist and come to the considered conclusion that they both suck.

Rated 6/10

I try to be understanding of Kanye and his mental health issues, but even if you give him grace it's still hard to ignore all the, erm... unpleasantness. There are some great songs on here (and the guy is a hell of a producer), but some stuff hasn't aged well and even the stuff that has is just hard to listen to the same way in 2026.

Rated 8/10

It's been almost 10 years since Kanye had his meltdown and lost his powers as a rapping and producing hit machine. It's amazing to reflect at just how good he was across this run of LPs. For many this one is the best, while I wouldn’t quite go that far I can see why others do. It has flawless flow from track to track and features his best production work. It's got hit songs, amazing features and consistently strong rapping from Kanye himself. It feels like a pop album in so many ways, but with so much textural and lyrical detail effortlessly embedded within every moment. Few albums are as iconic as this one.
