This one has some bangers, but maybe it's more nostalgia than anything else. All sounds like very same-y dad rock, and I didn't discover new songs to like.
Highlights: livin on a prayer (always fun to belt out in a crowd), you give love a bad name, wanted dead or alive
Rated 8/10
Incredible for the first 3 songs, and then “Social Disease” kinda snaps you out of it. Bon Jovi (the guy)’s voice is actually great, which was exactly what was missing from AC/DC’s Back In Black, the album I’ve chosen to compare this to, since I like this significantly more than that even though they’re very similar, and that’s interesting. This kind of rock, when done correctly, is the type of stuff I live for. Except, even then, I can’t listen to it for too long. It’s really awesome for a bit, but it eventually becomes very apparent that you’ve been listening to a variation of the same song for half an hour, and then you don’t want to listen to the rest of it, especially when you know the best is behind you. That being said, even though some of these songs can contribute to this feeling, a lot of them are really fucking good either way. Just look at how many hits are on here! And they’re good too! Yes, “Social Disease” and “I’d Die For You” kinda suck. But look at all those really good songs! Tracks 2, 3, 5, 6, and 8 are all massive, and ridiculously good. Yes, it’s campy. Yes, the lyrics intermittently suck. But that doesn’t stop the commercial power, and much more importantly the amount of fantastic songs on here.

If you’ve got a father-in-law then chances are they go crazy over this shit.

I don't like this as much anymore, because it's really dated, but come on. Some of the best rock hits of the 80s, earworm choruses and memorable guitar riffs. These songs are just simple and effective. Amazing.

Sometimes I forget how much I love arena rock

I get that a lot of people don’t like Bon Jovi. Well I do and I give this album 5 stars.

Well, full disclosure, I don’t hate them. Sure, pretty boy metal? I agree, album title that even not knowing the full story about the Vancouver strip joint, is suggestive? absolutely, but they could actually write great catchy songs, so while I never would buy an album I can quite happily listen to Living on a Prayer and not tear my ears out. In fact, woah-oh! I’m half way through listening to this album and it is joyous, in the same way skateboarding as an adult is, you know its immature but boy is it fun.
Rated 8/10
Just good old fun. That's all hair metal needs to be about. Yes it's commercial as shit, but at least it's not blaring tinnitus into my ears.
Rated 6/10
You know you're in for some gas right off the opening seconds of the album! Total glam rock bangers on here, on top of the classics I was already familiar with. I do think Bon Jovi is best enjoyed in moderation, however, as their sound would surely get old fast in a frequent rotation.
Standouts: Let It Rock • You Give Love a Bad Name • Livin' On A Prayer • Raise Your Hands
Rated 4/10
Opening track sounds like an exact 50/50 Def Leppard/Deep Purple castoff. It's pretty fun IG, same goes for the following tracks "Yu-Gi-Oh! The Card Game" and certified white people national anthem "Squidward on a Chair." After that we get into some really bad territory with some horrible Ozzy and Def Leppard worship tracks that should have been left in 1986
In all seriousness though, Richie Sambora really elevates this- he is a fantastic guitarist. "Wanted Dead Or Alive" is this band's crowning achievement, one of the best glam rock tracks of the decade.
Rated 10/10
Peak Hair Metal and nothing wrong with that. No need to over analyse it!
I’d forgotten how bloody good it is from start to finish. Every track could have been a Single.
It’s just chock full of bangers. Like a Time Machine for me….I instantly picture the dashboard of my first car listening to this - the tape was practically worn out it was played so much.

Wow, I’m almost impressed by how terrible this is.
There’s good fast food, and then there’s bad fast food. The latter doesn’t just leave you with a guilty conscience about the garbage you’ve just shoved into your digestive system - it doesn’t even deliver the sweet, saccharine rush that makes you turn to junk food for comfort in the first place. If Bon Jovi were food, they’d fall squarely into that latter category.
The best thing I can say about Slippery When Wet is that Bon Jovi managed a not insignificant feat: they created a cliché version of a genre that is already a cliché - and somehow made it sound sterile in the process. This is toothless, risk-free music dressed up as something edgier than it really is.
Really doubt that the editors of this list even spun Slippery When Wet from front to back; I’d even go so far as to claim that doing so is impossible without risking to loose one’s faith in artistic integrity.

I hate this but it's kinda awesome? I would not be surprised if this sold 15M copies. I'm not going to look it up.

There are countless incurable diseases, and the only thing that hurts me so much is the unrepeatability of childhood.
I haven't listened to this record in ages yet I remembered every song and lyric. It transported me back to a time and place where everything felt a little bit easier than now, with the weight of a teenager on my shoulders, worries I thought were the most unbearable in the world, like the first heartbreak, an unanounced exam at school, your crush believing you don't exist, your friends hyping you up to do some stuff you regret later. Looking back, they feel almost comical and surreal when compared to now once I'm navigating adulthood and parenthood.
Drinking beer, shooting pool, playing darts, discussing football, science, aliens, Mortal Kombat: Conquest the TV series from 1998, the golden generation of France that won the World Cup, whether Daniel Defoe's book 'Robinson Crusoe' is the best book ever, whether popsicles and ice creams are cousins, computers, Grand Theft Auto and Age of Empires, 'Black Knight' with Martin Lawrence, my new DVD and surround system, and naturally, Bon Jovi's hits.
Of course, I no longer listen to Bon Jovi nor have I thought of their music. Of course, my favourite band in the world is The National and I rate 'I Love You Honeybear' by Father John Misty. Of course, I come around as the archetypal music snob that sits in the corner and criticises every person at a party. Of course my friends are married with kids and we rarely see each other. Of course I can no longer recognise my hometown or locate the places we used to roam. Of course I can only travel to my childhood and formative years through music. Of course I'm a nostalgic man. Of course I'm clinging on to memories.
Memories are films about ghosts.

I was pondering on this one for a while. On ome hand I used to like this much more then I was a kid and it has few legendary tracks. On the other hand, I don't really listen to them anymore. Still Wanted dead or alive holds up to me to this day and album has a few very good album tracks so all in all, considering 4 stars.
