A nice, country tinged bunch of cover songs, guest writers and songs written for or by other artists. Country really isn't my thing but older country western is more akin to my liking than the 80s soft rock being peddled as country these days.
Overall a good record that I would never purchase but wouldn't be mad if someone else was playing it.
Rated 8/10
Every song is beautiful and made with love. "Bluebird Wine," "Boulder to Birmingham," and "Queen of the Silver Dollar" are my stand out picks. While there are a lot of covers on this album, it doesn't take away from Emmylou Harris' amazing vocals, which are definitely why everyone should listen to this album.

A steady and sweet album that reads like an open book. You can leave any cynicism at the door with this one and just allow yourself to be sung a series of kind hearted country songs.

Harris has a beautiful voice and there were some tracks on here that I really enjoyed; Boulder to Birmingham was a standout. A few of the tracks were a little too country for me; the Merle Haggard cover among them. But definitely some strong moments; this gets a high three but is close to a four.

Just a powerful distinctive voice, and this is real country and really beautiful.
Rated 4/10
Emmylou is really just fine - I find it hard to believe she drastically impacted musical history with her inability to break away from mid covers of better artists. OK but not impressive. 2/5

The Good: We are given pieces of the sky!
The Bad: Sometimes, the sky, is vast and even a piece is too much…
The Ugly: When one starts choking on the pieces…
To think that I worked for a company which made a signature guitar for this lady, and I never did bother listening to any of her music…
So, now I have. And I can state that, though her voice is purdy to say the least, it is too much honk-ee-tonk for me.
Should one have a little party, this could serve more than ample as background music though…
So, straight down the middle, as I don’t want to pull the lady down.

Edited… all of a sudden Boulder to Birmingham starts playing… damnit. 4*

It was pretty nice! I don't know I'd go back to it with urgency, but a very pleasant listen :)

This was fine. Voice was good, I didn't care much about the songs themselves though. Overall, it was fine.

Tender and quiet and sweet.

Pretty good. Not really my thing but I can't deny the quality of playing and songwriting. Excellent cover of For No One by The Beatles.
Rated 4/10
Music that sounds like classic 70s singer. Somehow they all sound very similar.
Rated 10/10
The steel guitar only detracts a little from this masterpeice. Incredible honest storytelling over beautiful well executed music.
Rated 8/10
Straight up Country Americana with the sonorous voice of Emmylou - what’s not to like?
Rated 6/10
Country. Favorite tracks: Too Far Gone, Boulder to Birmingham.

I was amazed at the vocals. Harmonized right through the key changes. Incredible voice.
