Rated 6/10

Pre-Dickinson Maiden - this singer isn't as good, I don't think. Some fun bits here though, overall reasonably enjoyable

Rated 10/10

Essential heavy metal album. Not as much of a focus on the vocals as other Iron Maiden albums, which I like.

Rated 6/10

An o.k. metal album from back in the day. Few standout tracks but not bad. 3/5.

Rated 4/10

Just sounds like metal lite to me. Which appeals to me personally more than heavy metal, but also makes it feel somehow less authentic. There is some nice guitar work.

Rated 6/10

Not normally a band for me. I hate heavy metal and this is a fantastic example of heavy metal.

Track 1 Prowler really suprised me. I loved it.

Favourite song: Prowler
Least favourite: They are all ok
Album artwork: I love the cover

Rated 8/10

I was expecting more dissonance and noise. Pleasantly surprised it was just a solid rock album.

oh yea baby. Its weird listening to them pre-Bruce, but its amazing just how many of the nuts and bolts on their sound were locked in this early. But this is S O L I D.

One might have a lot of preconceptions about Iron Maiden based on their album art. I guess I did. I'm not sure what kept me from listening to them but I'm mad it tookme this long. This is good stuff. I have been judging Iron Maiden by their cover for years and I'm mad I never gave them a chance.

Rated 4/10

It's easy to see why this is on the list; it was ground breaking at the time with it's dual guitar assault and spooky artwork. It's definitely aged better than the Judas Priest album I got earlier on the list. The prog influences help to set it apart too. But the only truly memorable song on here is Running Free, and the overall production is terrible. I feel sorry for the bassist in particular - he can barely be heard for most of the album. The lyrics let it down a good bit too, they are the most teenage boy to ever teenage boy. Doesn't really hold a candle to Number of the Beast!

Rated 2/10

It’s a no for me.

Rated 10/10

Urban punk Eddie was so much scarier to a junior metal kid than later fantasy Eddie.

Rated 6/10

It's different than I thought it would be, and I don't really know what I mean by that. There are a couple slow songs, which I didn't expect. It also kind of sounds like an exact meld of 70s rock and the hair rock that was big in the early 80s.

The singer is not great. Very limited. The instruments are good, hard rock fun, if a bit rudimentary - especially the drumming. I guess the best way to describe the music is that they won't be on anyone's top ten lists for their individual instruments, but they sure know how to have a good time.

This is a solid album. I've known of Iron Maiden, but they were a bit before my time so I never listened to them. Much better than I expected, I'd even say I enjoyed most of it, but I can't see ever listening to it on purpose. If that's not the quintessential 3 star rating, I don't know what is.

Rated 4/10

I liked the guitar work, but overall it didn't quite grab my attention. 2.5

Rated 6/10

I know that it's probably just me on this island, but I prefer everything about this record to The Number of the Beast. Di'Anno is a much more palatable vocalist; the guitar histrionics are slightly more subdued; the production is a bit grungier. With the bombast dialed back across the board, it gives the band's raw energy a lot more room to shine. Their riffs, tightness, and overall attitude are so damn strong.

3.5/5

Rated 8/10

I enjoyed this much more than I expected to. I'm not a big Metal guy, but this was more raw and I found that more interesting than I find most of the technically proficient metal.

Rated 6/10

Sin más, la verdad que es bastante cortito. Diría que la que más me ha gustado es "Strange World". Seguramente no me lo pondría yo mismo de fondo, pero no me molestaría si Spotify me lo clava en el aleatorio.

Rated 6/10

Totally not what I expected. Way more melodic (is that the right term? I dunno). And not super heavy or thrash. I guess this is a good album to see the transition from regular old rock to heavy metal?

Band complained about production values. I listened to 2015 remaster. It's not bad but kinda flat.

Rated 8/10

Surprisingly better than I thought. I don't know what I was expecting but that wasn't it

Rated 8/10

Excellent 70s style metal album. Not really my wheelhouse, but a fun listen. I hadn’t every listened to Iron Maiden before, but I’m a fan now.
