Like Håkan Hellström but better.
Rated 4/10
Kind of a cool combination of acoustic and electric guitar sounds for a bit of jangle and a dose of fuzz. Has more of a country folk feel to it than a lot of other 90s alt rock, without going full alt-country. Definitely has the gen x angsty melancholic overwrought emotional range nailed down, an album made for Ethan Hawke to make annoying faces over.
Favorites: Grace, Fuzzy

This was pretty much down the middle of the road for me; didn't dislike it at all, but didn't really excite me either.

When you're 900 albums in and on the homestretch of the 1001 list, you can become a bit indifferent, haven't we heard it all already?
I vaguely recall hearing of Grant Lee Buffalo, but had no idea of their music. Took me a bit by surprise, I quite liked it. Good songwriting and performance, gets a bit too somber in places, but a decent Sunday morning listen.
Rated 8/10
Grant-Lee Phillips has a great voice, the compositions and recording are perfectly complementary for the mystery and depth of the songs. Poetic, but unpretentious (maybe a little pretentious). Bears repeat listening for sure. Saw them live when this came out and it was memorable, really high-energy, dynamic. Excellent band, glad to see this album on the list. Well deserved.

Was familiar with GLB as an "REM adjacent" act (particularly as a college mate of mine was heavily into both) but never really made it past "decent" on my excite-o-meter.
And that appears to still hold true today.
Rated 10/10
The Good: Fuzzy wuzzy wuzz a bear…
The Bad: Fuzzy wuzzy did not care…
The Ugly: Thinking about fuzzy being a buffalo… tatazzy…
What? The entire portion above is just total weirdness.
Yet this album is anything but weirdness… it is greatness!
Here I thought I was a connoisseur of all ‘90s independent music, but color me surprised to having discovered something new!
And what a bummer… I can just see them back then, in the early ‘90s, just playing a gig here, and getting a great reaction from the crowd, and people thinking “this band is going to go somewhere!”… to fall into oblivion.
Now, don’t get me wrong, though really enjoyable, it is a little on the repetitive side, and if you aren’t into their sound, then I can understand that one would skip the album… But I dig it!
This is the perfect album for a cold winter night, with plenty of hootch and a nice fire crackling in the background… maybe some good company, old friends?
This is going to be an album on my repeat list, second one of the week… so this week is proving to be an enjoyable one for sure for me!!!
5* because I dig it!

Eh? It's fine. No clue why it's be on this list.
Rated 2/10
Wow what a turd of an album. I hated the singers voice, hated the song structures and started wondering how many more songs were on this album somewhere around song #4.
Maybe it made more of an impact when it was first released but I’ll be happy if I never have to listen to it again!
Rated 8/10
Never heard of this band before but I enjoyed this album!
Some nice songs on here. Very chill

Kinda boring in a few parts but overall an interesting album. Would be a 4 but the boring parts drag it down further than the high points raise it up
Rated 6/10
This is pretty good! I like his voice. The songs are well put together and deliver for the most part.
3.5 rounded down.

Solid album...his best
Rated 6/10
Interesting and listenable as good energy background music.

imagine this did very well in UK. can hear where Matt Berry was influenced.
Rated 6/10

Closest thing I’ve heard to an American Radiohead
Rated 4/10
Never heard of this band or album before. It was ok, nothing outstanding, another one I don't understand why it's here. 2*
Rated 6/10
This album isn't bad. It isn't your traditional 90's alt rock. It's like alt rock mixed with Americana or roots rock? It's interesting. Apparently these guys were popular with critics and their musical peers, but never broke through to the mainstream. Michael Stipe of REM stated that this album in particular was the best album of 1993.
Favourite songs: The Hook, Soft Wolf Tread, Dixie Drug Store, Fuzzy, The Shining Hour, Jupiter and Teardrop
Least favourite songs: Stars N' Stripes
