The essence of hardcore. Couldn't love it more. I wanted so bad to be a punk in high school but at best came across as a latter-day hippie. But the kids gave me credit for being "straight edge" AKA too scared to do drugs. "You think you're the only one? Think again... think again... think again..."

Bless them for making this a very short album.

Might not be THE best hardcore punk ever, but loads of fun. Enjoyed every minute. Low 4

Not really my thing, but one of the more enjoyable hardcore punk albums I've encountered here. 3*

This is it. The finest band in hardcore punk - the most important the very least. And yeah, I get it - the website is technically an album generator. But everyone knows this spot really belongs to Minor Threat’s complete discography (which is still shorter and crisper than most bloated ’90s records, from a time when labels pushed artists to cram as much music - be it good or be it terrible - possible onto a CD).
Minor Threat might not have the swagger of Bad Brains or a frontman with the raw charisma of Henry Rollins (of course, Ian MacKaye is an icon in his own right), but they wear their hearts on their sleeves and they’ve got these sharp f@*king hooks and riffs. I mean, if you don’t instantly wanna yell along to lyrics such as „we don’t care, we don’t pose, we’ll steal your money, we’ll steal your shows” (Cashing In) it’s your bad.
This record still hits hard and hasn’t lost any of its magic in those nearly 45 years. If you listen to just one hardcore punk band, make it this one. And if you think this iteration of hardcore punk isn’t your cup: “Think again, think again … ignorance, it sets your standards“ (Think Again).
Man, I wish I’d been in D.C. during the heyday of Dischord Records.

Very nice punk album: fast, furious... I was thinking in giving it a 3, as an average, but then I thought: "well, it made me feel great, it kinda energised me!" And a 4 it is, yes sir

A solid release from an undoubtedly classic, integral band within the timeline of hardcore punk. However, despite this being Minor Threat's longest effort, clocking in at 21 minutes, I've seen Out of Step being described as an EP far more often than I have as an album, and therefore it is a somewhat debatable inclusion in a list of 1001 Albums.
I'd also argue, if you're going to acknowledge Minor Threat in this list, that the debut S/T EP was more of a landmark statement and of greater importance to the development of hardcore, as to render it essential listening. Out of Step takes the band's sound into a more measured, less seething direction, hinting towards the later post-hardcore of Fugazi in patches. However, is it quite as enduring as the debut EP? I'm not so sure.

One of the best to ever do the whole hardcore thing. I don't know if I ever listened to just this album, I think I just always listen to the complete discography. But 22 minutes of angry, passionate, and in your face music.

makes me want to sit on a porch with a dog or sweat in a basement or run through a brick wall.

Fast loud a raucous, what’s not to enjoy!
Rated 8/10
As someone who was a teenager in the 90s and therefore into Green Day, Rancid, Offspring, Bad Religion etc you'd have thought I'd have listened to Minor Threat before, but no! The most hardcore punk I ever got was Dead Kennedys.
I can certainly hear the elements that later bands were going to be inspired by - some of the basslines are very Matt Freeman for example. Minor Threat were so influential in so many ways and I wish I'd have listened to them as a kid when I listened to punk and ska almost exclusively. But middle aged, middle class me really enjoyed listening to this on my walk to my cushy office job.

Solid punk rock. Kind of curious why it's on the list - is this one of the first of this type of punk? It doesn't sound super exciting to me as a hard-core punk fan who somehow has never listened to Minor Threat - did they invent this type of stuff?

Fast, furious, short! And the first thrash punk drummer that can keep up with the band. What’s not to like. Listened loud on an otherwise chilled and lazy Sunday morning and it completely blew my thought process for a frenzied 22 minutes. Loved it.

Short and "sweet"

I am not a friend of punk. You add hardcore to it we are enemies. Thought it was just one long song and the album is so short, whats the point. I read that it was influential for some genres of music that followed, such as Skate Punk and Thrash Metal. Do I look like I care?

3.5 short. Great.

Basis Werk des Punk-Rocks. Gute Ansätze aber insgesamt zu unausgereift.
Rated 8/10
I really liked this. Hardcore punk isn't normally my thing, but this hit just right to be something I enjoyed. My only complaint is that it was really short. 4.5/5

If I'm not mistaken, this was one of the bands that really helped shape and inspire the American punk scene, along with kind of being the forefathers of the Straight Edge movement. Anyway, like most punk, this is extremely basic. It sounds like any group of 3 people who are minimally competent with their instrument of choice, and a random singer/yeller who could literally be anyone.
That aside, it's not terrible. some of the songs are pretty catchy, actually. I'm never blown away by the technicality of any of it, but it's fine. It starts to get a little same-y, but one thing I love about punk is that the album is only 22 minutes. That's not nearly enough time for me to get super annoyed. 3 stars is about right.
