Lots of the tracks are either too long, or too short. I have an attention span somewhere in the middle, and am tired of hearing this length. Although it is good rock, I still don't consider this, like, "good" good, just good. Like, something's-bad-but-you-just-say-it's good good. See what I mean?

Pretty solid offering from Paul Weller here. Not as good as The Jam, but better than Style Council. Definitely liking the folkier, darker tracks like Wild Wood and Foot of the Mountain over the more bluesy and rootsier tracks.

Sometimes verges a little too much on Huey Lewis and the News type stuff, especially in the vocals. Sometimes a little psychedelic in a way I don't like either.

So yeah. Solid album here. Not blowing me away though.

Wild Wood is a pleasant amble with Paul Weller. He knows how to write a solid rock ballad, but is missing some of the energy from The Jam. It’s at no point either great or terrible.

This was ok, easy listening. Not much to say about it. Not bad, nothing really grabbed me. Don't see how it preempts brit-pop. 2*

I was debating between giving this 2 stars or 3. The songs don’t seem that bad, but they all just end up fading into the background and become instantly forgettable. I wouldn’t be mad if I heard this in a grocery store, but at the same time I can really sit for 50+ minutes and intentionally listen to it

Britain’s answer to Springsteen. I don’t like Springsteen. This was a rehash of old Sonic territory.

If I want to hear about working class Brits, I’m turning to Pulp.

This was fine, but it dragged sooooooooo much. Points lost for doing nothing that hadn't been done a million times before.

2.0/5.0: Disappointing

this isnt a high bar to clear but i think this is my favorite paul weller album so far. i have similar thoughts on this one as i did the other two, the instrumentals are pretty good but it goes downhill when paul opens his mouth to sing.

Paul Weller was a member of the band The Jam. I guess that's why this is included?

Rated 6/10

I was pleasantly surprised by this from the opening chords. Soulful rock in the mold of Robin Trower with some added flourishes. Not exactly original and sort of out of place in the 90s but it provided welcome vibes for my walk across town this afternoon. Way better than The Jam in any case.

Favorite track(s): Sunflower, 5th Season

Where Weller gave up and decided to be Eric Clapton.

I wasn’t really sure what to expect going into this album as I’d never heard of Paul Weller before. Turns out he’s the guitarist and vocalist in the Jam, which is another band that has been introduced to me through this list.

Overall, I enjoyed this album. Solid guitar playing, good singing, great production. But, did we really need to have some Paul Weller solo work on a list of albums to hear before you die? Honestly, we probably would have been alright just sticking to the Jam’s albums.

Oye, es rock noventero clasicón pero el disco me ha entrado estupendamente, suena grande y autoral y es muy entretenido de escuchar. Sorprendente.

Rated 6/10

I'm sorry, who? What? This seems like someone I should already know about because my parents listen to him. Maybe I'll recommend this record to them.

Rated 4/10

Not worth listening to again.

Rated 4/10

Middle aged man fever dream material

Rated 6/10

Holy Man is a banger. The rest is lame

Rated 4/10

It is yet another dull record from the British Isles. It has cool guitars and some interesting moments but it is not a noteworthy album by any means.
