Flop : Buenas Noches from a Lonely Room (She Wore Red Dresses)
Rated 4/10
I remember seeing Yoakam live about 25 years ago. It is good. This album is ok. I don't think it's really special or particularly interesting. Songs I enjoyed: "What I don't know" (music, not lyrics), "Buenas Noches...", "I Sang Dixie", or "Send me the Pillow",... overall, not a great fan (and don't really like the lyrics). It's between 2 and 3 stars for me.

I injured my hand while listening to this album so now I think I should make an entire album about how my hand hates me and cheated on me
Also I put full blame on Dwight Yoakam for said injury it's his fault I got hurt 💅💅

Perfectly pleasant instrumentals. I think I would have liked this a whole lot more if his voice wasn’t quite so plain. Likes it’s serviceable but I forgot the vocal performances about as quick as they left my ears. Favorite song was I Hear You Knockin’.

honey tonk country with misogyny and elements for the good old south .
Interesting use of Mexican flavors and sounds so it’s not a 1

Some of these songs sound like those pre-programmed songs on cheap yamaha keyboards

I blatantly hate women and Jews. Why did my girl leave me? Wah wah fucking wah.
Get in the bin...
I mean trash can.
Still found myself humming along to some of the melodies though.

I enjoy me some Dwight. This was great listening and I would do it again, just not that different from his other stuff. 3.

Correcto.

Yup this was fun. Good old fashioned honky tonk two-stepping music. Nothing fancy but hits a sweet spot.

While not really being that impressive, it's a decent album from an era where country went really pop. It's halfway between Vince Gill and Willie Nelson, just polished and pop enough to fit in the 80's, but lacking the rougher edge I like in a country album. The Buck Owens duet was pretty nice and I dug every song on here to some extent. All his other albums from the era are a much better showcase of his compositional talents though.

If you enthusiastically enjoy the first couple of tracks then it’ll likely be a very warm listen. If you find them pleasing but not particularly engaging, then it is likely the rest will flow by without too much note. Charming and completely inoffensive. I prefer country with a bit more bite.
Rated 4/10
Like a lot of country music, the slow songs are at a level that's so awful it's difficult to qualify just how bad they are. However, some of the tracks that are a little faster do have some great instrumentals. As for Dwight's voice, it's a quintessential country whine to the point of sounding like a parody.
2.0/5.0: Disappointing

its hard for me not to smile listening to this.
