There are some melodies hidden in all that noise that will surface more clearly in the next albums. I can only blame them being too young and wanting to push their sense of humour and experimental sound to make it less amicable but they outgrew that. They all do. We all do.

Loud Distorted noise rock , proof that Americans can do punk before they forgot how in the 90s

I’d like to abort this from the list.

Not as oppressive as I initially thought, in fact I actually found their darker experimentation to be quite compelling. The presentation is ridiculously over-the-top and the music truly sounds like they're throwing random shit at the wall, yet it all feels inexplicably intentional at the same time. Shocking to have fever dream music, thai samples, and heartbreaking testimonies of sexual assault come together somewhat cohesively.
As much as I respect the execution though, I'm not sure it's something I'd really come back to.

this album was remastered lol

Very very pleasantly surprised by this - sludgy, noisy, avant-garde punk fest. Very unique stuff indeed, maybe not for everyone, but I could not care less. At least 3 stars with real possibility of revisiting these butthole guys haha. Good find

Going into this, I pretty much didn't expect anything else. Dear God this is awful. The guitars sound like they're recorded straight out of the incinerator, the vocals are terrible, and the best thing I'm hearing is the Black Sabbath homage (if you can call it that). This might actually be the worst recorded thing on the planet like it's really that bad. At least the Butthole Surfers have successfully made me feel scared and deranged, almost like the clowns on the cover are laughing at me. Speaking of which, I really like the album art. This album really does sound like a Locust Abortion Technician. Records like these do the "challenge" portion of the 1001 album challenge justice. This album is absolutely ruthless, and makes me wonder if this is what grandpas think metal sounds like. When the music isn't earraping you to death, the distorted vocals have time to scare the rest of the listeners that made it through. But this listen makes me kinda sad, because the creators of this list could've picked something amazing, but went with this garbage instead. Why? I don't know, but since the beginning of this record talks about regret and that you tend to regret the things you didn't do rather than the things you did, I still regretted listening to this piece of God awful shit.

The normal sounding songs are bangers and the crazy ones excite maddening feelings in me. Oh my gourd

Interesting name. I also don’t know how to rate this. 5/10? Not my cup of tea

I enjoyed that. 3.5/5. Raising to 4.

I get it- doesn’t mean I like it.
Is Kuntz racist? Probably?
Rated 10/10
My husband (a normal, fairly mainstream kind of listener) and I (notoriously fond of a lot of weird shit) had opposite reactions to this album. Good thing it's the weird shit enjoyer going through the generator, huh?
Rated 6/10
Well, this album was a real challenge. Good thing I won.

Locust Abortion Technician is an album that needed several changes to be anything good in my eyes. I can definitely see a lot of potential for this to be a very good grunge album, most of the regular grunge elements like the guitars are handled pretty well and some of the melodies were pretty solid too and the vocals could work at points. The problem is, this album felt it need to stick out so it decided to add so much of this avant-garde crap to make a lot of the songs really weird and that was where this album fumbled. Almost all of these elements failed to sound even remotely good and made this album painful to get through. It is a shame because if the album dropped all the avant-garde elements and went straight for being a full blown grunge album, it could have been good but alas, this album is just barely going above the realm of awful.
Best Song: Human Cannonball
Worst Song: Hay

The first half is an all timer but this feels a little too short to have as many troll songs as it does, would be curious to listen to a longer record from them or one where they don't have like 4 sound collage tracks
Rated 4/10
Listening to this is a total mind bender, like walking into a fucked up funhouse. On one side, it's this crazy, abrasive mess, sludgey, and awful. That makes me wonder how it even made the must listen list. Tracks like "Kuntz" with its weird Thai samples and the heavy vibe of "22 Going On 23" are pretty rough to take. But, there's this crazy, chaotic genius hidden in there. The band's wild "Gibbytronics" and turning a Black Sabbath riff into "Sweat Loaf" show they're super out there and influenced grunge and noise rock. It's a short, intense trip into psychedelic punk that doesn't give a damn about comfort. It's not for everyone.

I first read about the Butthole Surfers in the book Our Band Could Be Your Life by Michael Azerrad. I was immediately intrigued because everything about them in the book sounded somewhat insane. I wish I could have experienced the chaos of their live shows with the costumes, stripping, props, fake blood, lighter fluid filled cymbals, strobe lights, smoke machines, and naked dancers. Unsurprisingly, the music is a similarly chaotic and psychedelic mix of noise and punk rock.
This album in particular is another that I absolutely love, but likely wouldn’t recommend to anyone unless I knew they had a similarly strange taste in music.

Mercifully short!
