I like this guy's voice. I like this music. It sounds like it could be from a rock musical. Also, now I know where Jack Black gets his inspiration and material from.

*Run to the Hills is an all time metal song
*Great guitar work and varied sound to the songs

Got to Iron Maiden through the game Carmageddon when I was a Kid :D I don't often listen die Iron Maiden, but when I do i always have a fun time. Especially this album has some really really good songs

Rated 8/10

Exhilaratingly stupid hard rock full of wailing dramatic vocals, harmonized guitar parts, power riffing, and driving bass. 🤘

Absolutely banging album - a career defining moment and probably Maiden's most iconic material. No shortage of highlights on this one - not least the title track, "Run to the Hills" and "Hallowed Be Thy Name". Deserves no less than five stars!

Was the cover made with glue and magazine cutouts?

I already listened to this one not long ago. But I can still say without a doubt that it is one of the best and most iconic british heavy metal albums of all time. It pretty much put Iron Maiden on the map, and the title alone caused plenty of controversy, which most likely contributed to its popularity. It is a pretty solid and easy listening album from start to finish, and Bruce Dickinson raises the bar in terms of vocals with his air raid siren of a voice, as well as showing off so many recognisable guitar riffs. songs like The prisoner, Run to the Hills and Number of the Beast are absolute bangers but it is not until when Hallowed Be Thy Name closes off this album where they truly showcase their skills in progressive rock storytelling. paving the way for more epic adventuous songs in ture such as Rim of the Ancient Mariner and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.

It’s better than the iron maiden album I was assigned YESTERDAY, but still not my thing. I think if I hadn’t had two in a row I would give this 3 stars. It feels like the definitive iron maiden album.

Ok, I get it. I can see why this is on the list. I can even see why people who love this band and get tattoos of them.

It’s just not for me. At all.

3 stars for being culturally significant and for being glad I listened to it.

Remember when this was the most outrageous, heretical, downright sacrilegious thing ever put on tape? It's terrifying! Burn your records, smash your tapes! In reality, this album is so cute! It's adorable! The song about 'Charlotte the Harlot' is no more egregious than the demon-possessed farm animals in Charlotte's Web.

I understand that Iron Maiden and bands like them were massively influential. It was groundbreaking at the time. But unfortunately for them, I find the metal of the future more exciting, more bizarre, more prone to causing actual offense. And that's what I find interesting. There's nothing wrong with what's going on in The Number of the Beast. But it obviously got outclassed pretty damn quick. Now it's just a quick little jolt of classic metal. It's cute.

Great at what they do and I appreciate it. But ends up being a bit too silly for me.

In my 'Old Man Music' era.

The epitome of "don't mess with a working formula". I could not for the life of me distinguish between this and Self-Titled, and was even ready to give it a 3 for that reason. Then the riffs spoke to me. And then they just kept coming! I can't hate on riffs this good!!

Standouts: Children Of The Damned • The Prisoner • 22 Acacia Avenue • Run To The Hills • Hallowed Be Thy Name

I’m not a big metal fan but this was a great game changer.

Rated 8/10

Soooooooooo it’s a metal album. I don’t really do metal in general, but I’m not against it. I’m just more of a punk gal than a metal gal, ya know? So when I hear “666 hahahahahaha!!!!” I’m like “WEAK!!! YOU SOUND LIKE PROTO-RITES OF SPRING BITCH!!!” Which they are and they do. But it’s more than that. There are some great songs and performances here, especially the closer, but to be honest the closer is the only one that really rises above “very cool but not interesting enough to be my thing.” Because the closer is incredible!! It’s one of the most impressive musical experiences I’ve ever heard, and it’s honestly probably the only song from here I’ll readily return to. Seven minutes of pure insanity. But it’s not the only really great one here!! 22 acacia avenue is pretty awesome, run to the hills is great, invaders is very good too. I like this album a whole lot.

The Number of the Beast was far more enjoyable than I expected it to be. I went in bracing myself for relentless noise and walls of heavy guitar. Instead, I found well crafted songs, sharp melodies and genuinely catchy hooks.

This challenge really has shifted my perception of metal. There is far more thought and musicianship involved than I used to give it credit for. The twin guitar work is precise, the rhythms are tight and Bruce Dickinson’s vocals add drama rather than just volume. It feels theatrical and controlled rather than chaotic.

Invaders is a strong opener and sets the tone immediately. The Prisoner has great momentum, The Number of the Beast itself is iconic for a reason, and Run to the Hills is simply a brilliant song. These are not just heavy tracks, they are properly constructed pieces of music with clear structure and memorable choruses.

Every track feels like it earns its place. It is powerful without being exhausting and melodic without losing its edge. I would definitely listen to this again.

Favourite song: Run to the Hills
Least favourite song: None. Every track works
Album artwork: A crazy, instantly recognisable cover that perfectly matches the theatrical intensity of the music
