I think this might be the first funk album I feel I've clicked with! :) Political, interesting, not overproduced... yep I like this a lot!

This was surprisingly good. I think it's probably a 3.5, but I'm going to give it a bonus half star because I spent the rest of the day listening to The Payback by James Brown, and that album is FIRE.

There's a midget standing tall. 5/5

FUNKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK ( 益 )

yeah ok i guess. not my kind of music

They had everything. Innovative but commercial, joyful and angry, the best short pop tunes and blasted stretched out improvs.

Rated 6/10

I liked this about the same amount as the last Sly album we got, which is to say, enough to score it a high three but not quite four. Funky fun, but doesn't reach the heights of (e.g.) Funkadelic

The Sly Stone doc comes out, I watch it, I listen to Sly and the Family Stone all weekend, I even think to myself while preparing dinner yesterday “Wouldn’t it be funny if we got a Sly album tomorrow?” And we did.

I do wonder if they pushed a Sly album to everyone that hadn’t listened to them all yet just because of the doc.

Some really good stuff on here. This is a group I always look for when I’m record shopping.

First time listen (and second and third). A great album 👍

Stand! is an album i actually really enjoyed. I felt that the first Sly & The Family Stone album i listened to (There's A Riot Goin' On) was good but a little boring as the album could get really samey. This one is a lot better because it does not feel nearly as samey and still had all the cool elements that album did. The songs actually were pretty cool sounding with all the things they did and the lyrics could be a fairly mixed bag ranging from pretty smart to pretty dumb. There were only a few parts i could consider annoying but none of them were ever enough to detract from my enjoyment of this album.
Best Song: Sing a Simple Song
Worst Song: Sex Machine

War mir etwas zu stressig.

One of the smartest records of the 20th century, and one of the tastiest to listen to. For me, it ever so slightly edges out Curtis Mayfield's and Marvin Gaye's socially aware masterpieces b/c it incorporates gravity w/ humor, and connects our psychic lives with upfront realities: 'shady as a lady with a mustache'; 'You're in trouble when you find it's hard for you to smile / A simple song might make it better for a little while'; 'I am everyday people.' You gotta etch out a special place for albums that make you feel good like no other. This is one of those informed blisses; groove-daring answers to our problems. You throw it on and may as well have a great day. Why not? You may also pick up a copy of Das Kapital and scold a landlord. Hell yeah.

Some of the greatest funky shit of all time on here.
The switch up in Stand! is pure magic. Instant head bobbing.
However, I'm going to be harsh here. There is 13 minute jam that doesn't do much for me. Without that, this would be 5 stars.

Perfect antidote to The Eagles

Rated 10/10

Politically switched-on and kaleidoscopically joyous. I think I might even prefer this to "There's A Riot..."

This is really fuun. I love this era

I love this. Such a great album and one that has influenced so much music since. Great mix of funk, soul, rock, psychedelia that not many others have been able to achieve. I love the extended jams on this record, it makes me wish I could have seen them play this live back when it was new. I bet that would have been quite an experience. There are a couple of slow spots for me on this one, but even those are better than average.
I'm always blown away by the musicianship on these types of records. Being able to sound so relaxed but so tight at the same time, just incredible.
This one is right on the line of a 4 and 5 for me and I'm having a hard time deciding. I think that on the whole it's fantastic, but the slow spots do take me out just a bit. I think I'd call this one like 4.5/5 but will round down because I think it needs just something a little more to call it a 5.

The guitars feel like they're -singing- in this album, it's great! Definitely feels like it's a short but sweet deal of an album - Sex Machine feels like a wonderful jam session.

Rated 8/10

This would’ve been a 5 star but my God Sex Machine drags. Way too long a song and completely killed my interest. Take that away and it’s an amazing album.

Rated 10/10

Very enjoyable album, the only one I wasn't really into was the title track for some reason. Can see how influential this was as well, classic album. At the same time, it's not one I'd be dying to put on again. Solid 9/10
