I think I like the concept of this group in my contemporary history more than their actual input. They feel like punky gothy background music suitable for a shift washing dishes at a cool diner. I'm down but I don't precisely yearn for the experience...again.

Couldn't get the album to play via Spotify so I checked it out piece by piece. Couldn't get all of it but it was decently punky old brit stuff and I didn't mind it.

Oh it's cheesy as hell. It's also really well made and soulful and cool. Great instrumentation and layered vocals. Solid production. Not a bad song on it even if a few of the lyrics make me cringe a touch.

Overlong and so very poorly mixed. I don't know if that was a financial limitation or what but it flattened out an album that clearly had some virtuosity going for it if nothing else.

17. She was 17 when she wrote this. Bonkers.

Solid vocal range. Great playing. Actual arranging. Solid production.

I like her album Extraordinary Machine more but this is, in my opinion, more of a feat.

This is one of the few albums I've wished for half star rating systems for as I'd go 4.5 I can't in good conscience give it a 5 but it's close.

I grew up listening to jeff so I can hear his style of lyrical flourish and charming mawkish prose in his father. I didn't care for the style of music as much but it wasn't a big chore.

I hate to be comparative but I felt, listening to this, that I'd rather be listening to either Dutch Uncles or Hot Chip in turns. It wasn't bad. It was fine and even catchy in spots. It just didn't grab me with a thesis at any point musically.

It wasn't bad just wandering around. It had a vision and a mission but, since Deltron 3030, exists it's just kind of difficult to hear this and not immediately wish to be listening to that. Sounds mean but I found myself being reminded of that particular album about every other track and how I'd rather be listening to it?

I know it's a classic but I was never really a big listener of sonic youth? I'm in the genre and age bracket. It never quite grabbed me. I will say that Chapel Hill was a striking song and I do like the album. I'll probably listen to it again at a time where I'm not at work.

Probably in the top 5 most iconic albums of the early 80's. It's Americana that isn't shoved up it's own ass. It's regretful and analytical and solemn and wild. I don't even truly care for Springsteen's music as a listener but I respect the hell out of what he did here. Culturally, the fact that it flew so far over the heads of the jingoistic crowd boggles the mind. Bruce has ever been on the side of kindness, the worker, the family, the dream of what America could be and not the feckless nonsense we are sold. This album is also extremely well-paced and varied.
