The Good: Mr Winwood!
The Bad: This album…
The Ugly: Mr Winwood…

If you read his bio… OMFG… He’s like the GOAT, who nobody knows about… at least, for those of us who know him only for the 2 cheesy ‘80s songs he did.

For the stellar back ground that he has, all the experiences that he gathered… could he not have made a better fucking album?
This is like Einstein deciding to connect the fucking dots instead of E=MC2 the shit out of physics…

Not a totally waste of my time… but wish it were more enjoyable.

3*

The Good: We get to join a band!
The Bad: What if we don’t have a lonely heart?
The Ugly: That look of sheer jealousy from the other band members, with their broken hearts… suckers!

Well.. I knew it was coming… the album that is. And I listened, with great interest as I’d never really listened to the album… and I liked the start, and then I started noticing the influence that several songs on this album must have had for Queen’s work further down the line…

And then we got mystical… we got sihtar.. we got a general thought of “what the fuck is this doing here?”
And then they just lost me…

Lucy In The Sky, With A Little Help Form My Friends… what monster classic gems! The rest… I could have been spared most of the album, to tell you the truth…

I heard the album Mr Dimery, can I die now?

3 1/2 downgraded… 3*

The Good: We get to visit Ladyland!
The Bad: No tom-foolery to be had there…
The Ugly: Turns out an electric lady just isn’t the same thing…

Okay, that was pathetic… not the album, just the above.

I would argue that Jimi is the reason I started playing electric guitar. Hey Joe was my first song, Wind Cries Mary was my second…
There’s a good chance that I purchased a wah-wah just so I could try to play the opening to Voodoo Child…

This album is not one that I had ever listened to… at least, not that I recall. I know the last two tunes of this album all too well, as they undeniably some of the greatest guitar songs out there.
Yet, like many other peeps have said in the comments, this album just kind is a hit and miss thing…

Did I enjoy the listening experience? Sure, but I don’t have the desire to listen to the album again… and that is sad.

So, I should rate this 3*, regardless of Jimi being a God!

The Good: Guess we don’t need a paddle!
The Bad: We are still up shit creek..
The Ugly: This gentleman’s mental health… no joke…

This is the first time that I have, on purpose, activated the lyrics option on Apple Music, just to see exactly what Mr Spence is singing about…
Still don’t get it.

What is true about this album is the sheer musicianship of all the session players who helped out. Boy oh boy, that is some tight playing.

Will have to listen to this album a couple more times to really have a good idea what I think… for now, I will give it a 3*

The Good: Fucking Moonwalk!
The Bad: Billie Jean being a lying ho…
The Ugly: I refuse to mention the little boys…

What a fucking album.

Had to go into Wiki to make sure that I wasn’t totally losing my mind. For me, this album has always been more of a 1984 kind of thing… probably because, like many of my friends, it was late 1983 when we started paying attention to that zombie freak wearing a red leather jacket.

9 singles. Most reaching the Top-10. Most of them really great. Beat It, Billie Jean, Thriller, they are more than classics, however, the rest; Human Nature, Wanna Be Starting Something, PYT (nah-na-nana)… I would argue that the Paul McCartney due is the worst of the bunch—unlike the Say Say Say duo they did for Sir Paul’s album, which was awesome, and also had a great video!

Anyway, I had this on vinyl. I played it raw. Loved it… until Prince knocked him off his throne… In my world that is.

My only gripe with this album is that it shouldn’t be on a list of 1001 albums one should hear, because you can not hide from this album. Period… so we have all heard it.

5*

Real LifeMagazine

Rated 6/10

The Good: I’ve always preferred magazines to newspapers!
The Bad: That is’t real… life…
The Ugly: Uncertain what kind of magazine this is…

If someone would’ve bet me money, I’d have said that the opening song is more than familiar, at least to me!
I got all excited thinking that, perhaps, I’d been enjoying Real Life for longer than I thought. So I greedily clicked the wikipedia button, thinking that I would be told that Definitive Gaze has been used in mayor tv series, or movie productions… or something… to find that the name doesn’t even link to a separate Wiki page…

Then it dawns on me… I’ve been playing catch up on about 15 odd albums which, for one reason or another, I’ve not had the chance to really sit down and listen to… and this is one of them.
I have, however, started listening to this album on a couple of occasions… which means that this is where I’d heard the first song over and over again…

Now I need to consider whether or not trying to finish this list is good for my sanity…

Back to the band… I kind of like it, sometimes I love it… but at no point is there a “wow, I really needed to hear this before I die!” kind of feeling going on.

The consensus seems to be that, Mr D in all his wisdom, is pissing off one too many persons with his list.
This here not being a bad album, just uncertain why we’d have to hear it…

So yeah, sorry… 3*

The Good: We get to cause some trouble!
The Bad: Only if we walk their way…
The Ugly: My adidas… which I’ve owned for over. decade, are all run down…

Tricky… classic
My adidas… more classic
Walk this way… the start of a (re)-birth.

Good for you RunDMC, impressive how you managed to get hip-hop to be moved out of the ghetto and into the burbs… or should we thank Rubin?

Regardless, this is indeed a historic album… that gets stale real fast…
Teenage me tried to start a hip-hop act with a buddy… we sucked at it,. I think my artistic name was triple D and his was doube E or something stupid like that… kids… go figure.

Anyway, I listened to the album… now I can die, right?
Also, let’s pretend for a minute that a Vanilla Ice would have created a song called “proud to be white”… just saying…

2*

The Good: Who doesn’t like to get enchanted?
The Bad: If it is a chore… then it is less enchanting…
The Ugly: Finding out that Giant Sand is really quicksand…

Well, that last portion isn’t 100% accurate… technically speaking, though the sand might be quick, the death is ohhhhhh sooooooo slowwwwwwww….

This is brand new for me, which is kind of nice, and the first track made me sit up and listen… yet, when I found out that most tracks which followed #1 were pretty much the same, the novelty of this band quickly faded away.

People need to start making music again. Not try to make art. Or make a statement. Or feel like they have to fill an album with at least 1 hour and 20 minutes of stuff…

I don’t know how to rate this album… I want to go down the middle… but seeing as my journey of the 1001 is starting to make me a bitter person, I fear that this album doesn’t deserve more than a 2*...

The Good: We’ve got everything but the girl…
The Bad: We kinda wanted the girl more than the boy…
The Ugly: Uncertain where the wound is which we are walking around with…

It’s all so casual… isn't it? Walking wounded… Like it’s nothing… Like it’s applying some lip-liner…

Anyway, the music… what can not be denied is that Mrs Anything But The Girl has a terrific voice. Boy oh boy, she knows how to sing.
Mr Anything But The Girl, well, he knows how to sport the jacket he’s wearing… right?

For me this is mid-90s lounge music, perfect for an afternoon of easy drinking, followed by a night of heaving boozing and some kebabs at the end…

Anyway, that was the young me.
The old me got bored of the music pretty fast…

So, here’s bored me giving the most boring score I can think of, without insulting them spectacular vocals…

3*

The Good: I am a big fan of grey!
The Bad: Till you find out that it’s an acronym…
The Ugly: Which stands for Grandma Rapes Everyone’s Yolk…

I think that there was 1 song which, for a second, made me actually pay attention… then this forced monologue of big words meaning small things popped being spat out too fast made me lose interest.

Rap. Not. My. Thing.

1*

The Good: We know this will disappear at a certain point!
The Bad: It’s not happening soon enough…
The Ugly: My Primal Scream!!!

I hate it when the album that presents itself via the streaming services isn’t the original length. Hate it.

Gratefully, I found this magic button that reads >> and let’s me move on to the next song… hit that with enough frequency and you will find that the album has reached its vanishing point!

Was this album bad? Not really.
But it wasn’t great either. It was kind of nowhere… probably because I am still enjoying the presence of the previous album “Steve McQueen” which is still having me hum the chorus to When Love Breaks Down….
This album… can’t hum a single bar…

Giving this album a score is almost unfair as the experience has vanished, maybe even before the experience began…

3*

Night LifeRay Price

Rated 6/10

The Good: Finally an album about what we do at night!
The Bad: Finding out that our parents find out what we do at night…
The Ugly: Well, the getting caught part…

When the intro portion to this album started, I was all like “hey, that’s the song which BB King and Willie Nelson recorded together!!!” and then someone stats talking over it…

Was this a bad album? No
Is this something that I am placing on my frequent rotation? No

I have to say that Mr Price at times was confusing the hell out of me, as he sounds a little too close to The King—Not BB, the Elvis kind…
It’s all nice and such, but also too, I don’t know, repetitive?

Anyway, I will give the album 3* and leave it at that...

The Good: Steve McQueen!
The Bad: This isn’t Bullit…
The Ugly: It isn’t even Alex Wheatle…

Prefab Sprout, I find out, is a mondegreen for Pepper Sprout… fuck if I knew what a mondegreen was…

A quick walk down memory lane… it was probably 1986, not certain right now, but I remember going to a record store with a buddy of mine, where he was looking for one album, and I decided that I was going to purchase my very first CD—stop me if I’ve told this story before.
Anyway, there I was, looking at CD this and CD that, when my buddy, I think, showed up with a Jean Michel Jarre CD, stating that this is what he was going to buy. Me, I forget what I had in my hand, but, I was to find out, it was not good enough as the label on the back for the CD was AAD, instead of the DDD my buddy had—where A stands for Analog, and D for Digital.

You see, the CD, according to my buddy, was best quality if all phases of production were done digitally, as this meant best quality… what did I know.
I ended up buying The Innocents, by Erasure, because of the song Ship of Fools, and the fact that the CD was DDD… little did I understand the whole queer-ness of the album.
To this day, I still enjoy listening to it, and don’t understand why it’s not included on this damn list…

Back to this album… what stands out to me is the glorious Hi-Fi sound, how the music just knows to fill your room, and make you pay attention to all little nuances. It is something that I really enjoy about mid-80s production in general.
Maybe one of the reasons that I am starting to become allergic to the modern Lo-Fi crap that I am forced to listen to.

This album, totally unknown to me, though I know I heard this played in the past, is going to be added to my list of albums I definitely want to listen to again.
5* as a grateful THANK YOU for taking me back to my teenage years!

The Good: There’s a Cupid involved!
The Bad: The arrows were left at home…
The Ugly: Shitti Pitti…

I recall having a “best of something” album, way back in the mid ‘80s which included a Scritti Politti song… but I can’t recall the damn song… and I don’t know if I want to.

Back in 1985 I was enjoying my teenage years, making out for hours with my girlfriend, and just generally sucking at school. I was listening to Prince, I was listening to Top 40 music. I don’t really recall this album on heavy play with my friends… or even play.
The radio played Madonna and Phil Collins, or Dire Straits.

Anyway, this is indeed ‘80s synth pop, and truth be told, if you’re gonna listen to that shit, then it might as well be this album.

I will give it 3* for the memories, however, off to cleans my pallet with some of the greater albums from 1985...

Palo CongoSabu

Rated 4/10

The Good: Congo Sticks rule!
The Bad: Realizing that you don’t play the congos using sticks…
The Ugly: Getting repetitive strain injuries from too much congo…

This was what it was.

Let me ask this question; why is it called Cuban Jazz? What the hell does this have to do with jazz?
It’s just some congos and back and forth yelling…

World music, some times, should just be skipped…

Will give it 2* for effort

GarbageGarbage

Rated 4/10

The Good: We are getting a hint!
The Bad: That the hint wasn’t something nice…
The Ugly: Realizing that there are people who do like garbage…

Let it be said that this is one of the better album covers out there. It is instantly recognizable, from almost a mile away, which I find impressive to say the least.
What I find odder is the fact that, had someone asked me the origin of this band, then I would’ve said UK… to find out they are not…

’95… Summer… I am uncertain if this was the summer that I ended up getting second degree sunburn during a quick weekend get-a-way… ’95 was a great time though… However, there was a slight shift in the music scene, where the “indy” music had fully started to push out what was left of Rock and/or Grunge. It also marked the moment when music started to embrace the more pop-sounding music from the likes of Blues Traveler, Hootie and the Blowfish, Better Than Ezra… And the absolute domination of Hip-Hop/modern R&B and other assorted shit like that…

For me, Garbage always sounded like the soundtrack for a late ‘90s videogame that you would be playing on your playstation, or maybe x-box…
There are, obviously, two songs on this album that anyone who was breathing in the ‘90s will have heard more than ones, which isn’t exactly a good thing… as Garbage was being shoved down people’s throats at a certain point…

So why is this album here, and Blues Traveler’s Four isn’t? And are Hootie and the Blowfish represented, or Matchbox 20?

Once again Mr Dimery has been able to show us that he is a twat…

2*

The Good: Lightning will only strike once in the same place!!!
The Bad: This bolt just keeps on pounding us in the groin…
The Ugly: Being mislead by the fucking rainbow…

Okay, so noise is art, I guess.

If one would want to start a fight, play this album.
If one would want to get ready to rumble, play this album.
If one would want to have a good time… forget you ever had to listen to this album…

Thanks for wasting my time, Mr Dimery!

The Good: We’re finally getting rid of England!
The Bad: We’re not getting much in return…
The Ugly: Brexit, anyone?

Who would've thought that Genisis gave us a glimpse of what was going to happen decades later? True to their name, they were…

All joking aside, I never really dove into the old Genisis, probably because of it’s proggy prog roots. In college, one of my best friends was a massive Genisis fan, and when Phil left in ’96, he wore a black band with the inscription “and then there was 1”

Interestingly enough, yesterday’s album was Tarkus, by Emerson, Lake & Palmer, which means I’ve had to listen to 2 ‘70s prog rock giants, and my real thought was “are you fucking kidding me???!!!!!” ELP was hell to listen to, so I was dreading this one…

Well, fucking Peter, Phil, Steve, Tony and Mike (in no particular order), have been able to mesmerize me enough to want to listen to this album several times more… not because it is a toe tapper, or fist pumper of a record, but more because, to paraphrase someone’s comment I read around here, I need to pull back the onion layers and see what’s behind.

Also, as a final thought, … . ]]… \\

4*

The Good: We get an armadillo tank!
The Bad: Seems the armadillo is not so powerful…
The Ugly: This kind of Prog Rock….

I tried… the music snob in me is crying… this. is. difficult. to. sit. through.

I figured out why I don’t like it, and it is the god awful sound of the Moog Modular synth. I know that there are people with tattoos on their body, showing their love and appreciation for the Moog Modular… me, it is synonymous with the thought “where is the skip button?”

Needless to say, I can’t give this album a much higher score than 2* and I should also add that I have nothing additional to mention...

The Good: It’s a birthday party!
The Bad: Held at a junkyard…
The Ugly: Getting bitten by the dog…

Noise, for the sake of noise, is just noise…

Experimental, for the sake of experiment, is just posing…

Nick Cave get’s too much credit…

Shit
