I’m no jazz aficionado. I’m sure my son, who loves jazz, will be upset that I will rate this higher than the more experimental jazz albums. This was easy to listen to, although nothing surgically jumped out at me. I heard it and it’s pretty much gone from my memory.

I had a pretty harsh review of this album up, then read how its main vocalist and writer died, so let’s just say I found it mediocre.

There are some real beauties on here, but it is a bit inconsistent. Their WAR album is my favorite ever so I know they can hit a home from start to finish. This one isn’t quite that.

Ohhh, I LIKE this! Never heard of it but the grooves are JUICY! Nice slow jams with really nice vocals. Yes! Love a great new find.

I like the energy of it. The background guitar drone does get annoying after awhile. I’d say it’s better than average but no masterpiece. 3.5 personally, maybe will round up to four.

This is lovely. Very atmospheric. Stunning at points. A friend thought I was listening to REM, and I can hear the resemblance. Nice new find.

I thought it was pretty inoffensive when I had it on as I was doing other things. But then I started paying attention during the second half of the album and it really started annoying me. The title track and Motorola Scalatron were my least favorites because of their driving repetition.. Luckily the songs are fairly eclectic and there were others that were more atmospheric and interesting. Definitely a mixed bag, which is preferable to boring.

Very straightforward example of 90s alt rock. Not particularly unique but very representative.

Another British band I had never heard of! So many on this list.
This one, I am pleased to learn about! This music would have been cutting edge in 1979. Nice mix of moody electronics and new wave beats. Vocals are smooth. Good mix of styles. Really fun album.

This album has many references to 9/11/01. So the lyrics are often affecting. But in the long run it just sounds like a long typical Springsteen album. The man doesn’t have a ton of musical range. And it really didn’t work well when he tried to expand into a middle-eastern sound on one track.
If you are a Bruce fan you’ll probably love it. I thought a few tracks were better than others, but overall? Eh.

This played a few times through in the background of my morning. Pleasant. Nice in that the songs don’t all sound the same. It’s a shift four stars, because there isn’t anything that really makes it stand out, but would easily get 3.5.

I mean, honestly, WHAT distinguishes this album from hundreds of other male pop albums? I cannot pick out one reason why I needed to listen to this before I die. Unbelievably average. I don’t need to give it a low score because it’s fine, I just do NOT understand its inclusion.

It’s easy to listen to. Nothing particularly earth-shattering, but to have it in the background is pleasant enough. 3.5 stars.

I can hear the talent in this. I’m sure there are plenty of owls who think it’s great. It’s just not my jam. A bit too harsh for me. I did like High all the Time. A few other tracks had me bopping along, but overall the lyrics weren’t for me and there wasn’t enough musically to compensate for that.

It’s nice and consistently mellow all the way through. Sit back, smoke a fattie, close your eyes and imagine the palm trees and tropical sunset. Don’t be in any rush, some of these songs meander along for quite awhile.

If you were an American teenager during the late 1970s you almost definitely owned this album. It’s hard to be objective about something that is so ingrained into m’y adolescence. There are some absolute classics on here. But a few tracks that aren’t, so not quite five starts.

A real melange of styles on this one. I appreciate the creativity it took to make this. Some tracks I enjoyed more than others, which is to be expected when there is a variety of styles. Went on a bit long for me but I’m happy I got to hear it.

I mean… it’s harmless? There’s not enough substance to even get mad about it. But there’s nothing much of interest either. Wouldn’t go on my top 1001 list, not sure what about it is significant.

I think of myself as a pacifist, so I have no idea why I so thoroughly enjoyed this militaristic album. It’s unlike anything I usually listen to. But it is fascinating and actually really easy to get drawn into. The insistent drumbeats are almost hypnotizing. The bass voice sounds robotic. It all sounds like a military documentary soundtrack. For a girl who likes to dance and swing there’s no reason for this to appeal to me, but it really does. It’s almost soothing in the strangest of ways. I should clarify that all of this pertains to the vinyl album tracks. Things get more repetitive, annoyingly so, on the add-on tracks which appeared on the CD. I need to find out if they should be part of my rating, because those tracks will definitely drag the score down.
Another album that I’m very happy is on the list because there is zero chance I ever would have heard this otherwise.
