This album started slow and kind of weird, but by halfway through, I figured out Jeff's shtick and was able to enjoy the album. He reminds me a bit of Andrew W.K. but less rock, and more indie punk... A very hard genre to nail down, but not a bad album all in all.

An hour of lo-fi electronica garbage. The one Boards of Canada album we had on the original list (Music Has the Right to Children) was more than enough of this shit thanks...

How can a whole country, just as a rule, make such shit music... Scotland really lost the plot after the bagpipes/Celtic music. All this modern music is utter garbage.

Literally 1 hr where NOTHING HAPPENS..... AT ALL!!! What a waste of a vote, and my time... I think the album included in the original 1001 list was better than this trash. I gave it a 3, but this is a hard 1. I just have no patience for this garbage any more. There was way too much of it on the original list.

Favourite songs: Music is Math... I guess?

Least favourite songs: The Devil is in the Details, Gyroscope, Dawn Chorus, ... all of those 30sec - 1min dumb fucking "songs"... and the rest of this garbage

Indie pop. I had another of this band's albums in the post list (A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships) and absolutely hated it. This one is actually not bad. I mean, not great, but a comfortable 3. The other one was horrible. This is the much better choice.

I feel like Billy Squier is one of those artists whose songs you know, but either attribute it to another band, or don't know who sang it. I went into this album thinking I knew maybe 2 songs, and ended up knowing 5. Just super high energy, 80's heavy rock anthems. A lot of this album reminds me of songs like Heavy Metal by Don Felder. This album is a straight up hit factory. Thanks for bringing more attention to Billy Squier, OP. He definately deserves his place on this list!!

Live albums are made for the people who know the band in question. For me, having never heard of My Morning Jacket, listening to 2hrs of out of tune canoodling was both painful and unnecessary. These guys are alt country/indie rock, and remind me a lot of The Glorious Sons. I think I would really probably like this band had I had some exposure to them beforehand, but this marathon of listening just did not paint them in the best light. I wish one of their studio albums was recommended rather than a live album. And regardless of whether I knew them beforehand or not, 2 hrs is way too long for a record. I don't really know what the last hour of the record sounded like, because after the 1 hour mark I lost interest and couldn't maintain focus. I just wanted it to be over.

So, to sum up, probably a good band, but not the best album recommendation.

Favourite songs: One Big Holiday, Golden (there may have been more, but by the end I just didn't care anymore...)

Least favourite songs: Wordless Chorus (painfully flat vocals)

Of course. What we need to listen to is more subpar, obscure British garbage. Because there wasn't enough of this shit on the original list. I thought maybe if I listened to it another day it may grow on me, but it's still as awful as the first time. Way too long. I will say, the second half of the album is better than the first, but it isn't enough to save this dumpster fire.

This album is a drastic change from everything else I've ever heard of Bon Iver. Super cryptic, super experimental, super minimalistic. His shit is usually largely "Unplugged", but with this album, he fucks with lyrics/sounds using synths/harmonizers. He dips his toes into hip hop a bit even. Very interesting album. Once ya settle into how weird it is, it's pretty solid.

RENAISSANCEBeyoncé

Rated 4/10

Gross. Beyonce was always a fairly clean pop singer, but with this album, she seems to be trying to dip her toe into that gross pop music that features way too many songs about banging and has way too much vulgarity. Don't get me wrong, I swear like a sailor, but this just doesn't sound like Beyonce. It's more of a Nikki Minaj/Cardi B. Don't sell yourself out to be more like those sweaty, gross fucks. They need to go for shock value, because they don't have any other talent so they have to flap their tits on screen to sell records. Beyonce should be able to lean on her natural talent to sell records, not sing about thick cocks and asses. Not for me. Yuck.

I had another album by these guys last week (Separation Sunday). I was floored by how much I love these guys sound. This is right in the pocket of money I love. Somehow this was a blind spot I had, having never heard of these guys before. Since last week's listen to Separation Sunday, I delved into their whole discography. Admittedly, this album is my favorite, however, everything they have made is great! Thank you Op, The Hold Steady now has a new fan! This is the shit!!

This sounds like a Clown slowly losing his mind. It's like a mix of prog and psychadelic rock.

This is a weird album, and it's horribly British. Like British weird is different than American weird. British weird is more refined. More palatable. I can usually tolerate British weird better than American weird. American weird is where we get things like fucking noise rock and shit. British weird is where we get stuff like excessive kazoo work or strong Renaissance feels from.

This sounds like if Noel Fielding was told to make a record. And, of course, because this album is weird, it is also almost 90 mins long. But it doesnt feel like a slog to get through. It's a trip. Same vein as Captain Beefheart.

The kind of pop music frequented by teenage girls, like Taylor Swift. Unlike similar acts however, Olivia's type of pop maintains a guitar forward style, sometimes dipping her toes into folk pop. Her breath-y voice reminds me a lot of Kacey Musgraves. Because actual musical talent is on display all over this record, and Olivia has a beautiful singing voice, I actually didn't mind this album much.

Utter garbage. No musical cohesion at all. It's like a bunch of people in a room just practicing their own instruments without any care for what the others are doing. Classified as punk, but nothing about this screams punk to me.

So much distortion. It's just a wall of fuzz with everything just out of focus. No clue what the "singer" is yelling about, but according to the Wikipedia page, the album is about the loss of his girlfriend in a car accident. That sucks. Oddly, even though it's just noise, the emotions of pain and loss do come through. It feels like the inner struggles of someone going through it. When your in the thick of an emotional rollercoaster, and there is just noise in your head...

This isn't an album that you pop on to listen to at a party, or on a road trip. This is an album to pop on when you are suffering pain or loss to help cope with the feelings.

Not my favourite album, but I appreciate its existance, and glad to have listened to it.
