started off really great and slowly went downhill from there. i found myself waiting for it to end. then the last song decided to pan left making me think i had an issue with my headphones which aggravated me to no end

i wasnt sure what to expect going into this album. i first heard of billy bragg when lars frederiksen covered "to have and to have not" back in the early 2000s. i always enjoyed that track but never really explored his discography. then i got the billy bragg/wilco album on here which I did not enjoy. this one was closer to what i was hoping for from him but still left me with a lot to be desired. the genre on wikipedia is folk punk which i think does fit a few of the songs but i think folk is more accurate. for the most part it felt like listening to the uk bob dylan.

this was fine. some of the songs felt familiar though im fairly certain ive never heard them before.

i think i wouldve actually enjoyed this without the vocals. the instrumentals were interesting and had a lot of variation but the vocals really took me out of it. after the first song i was thinking this would be a one so i ended up rating it much higher than i thought i would

i've heard this album one other time and i hated it. listening to it it this time, i can say i still hate it. it's not that the songs are bad but they meander way too long. van morrison isnt doing anything interesting enough to warrant an almost 10 minute song

its like listening to a decent album on broken speakers. it would actually be pretty good if they just had the static on a few songs but doing it on everyone song makes it borderline un-listenable.

first half is an incredible pop record. the second half is more experimental. its dark and moody, almost haunting in a way. its good but unlike the songs on the first half, not something im likely to revisit.

i struggled to rate this one. on one hand the beats are incredible and his flow is immaculate. on the other hand its an incredible bloated album where the majority of the songs simply aren't memorable. thats to say nothing of the actual lyrical content. i understand the context of the album but it doesnt help it age well at all. the marshall mathers lp had similar issues but was much more interesting.

atmospheric, a little boring at times. didnt enjoy this as much as other albums in similar genres but it was good.

another album where i dont fault people for the low rating but think there is a lot of exaggeration around how bad it is. that goes double for the people that couldnt even be bothered to listen to the entire thing.
