Even for a Punk album made during the loudness war, this one is really loud. Didn't know them besides the first single but I liked what they did. Just simple and noisy blend of 2000's alternative and Punk. Very short listen as well, helps the Punk vibe. It's a bit edgeless I guess, but it does what it sets out to do pretty well.

1999Prince

Rated 4/10

Was waiting for this to be over. I can stomach Prince but I never really care for his work outside of the odd song or 2. 1999 and Little Red Corvette aren't my favorites of his and within the deepcuts I didn't find much that I actually enjoyed. There's obvious quality to it, but someone needed to press the stop button during some of these recordings. All longer songs without enough going on for me to really sustain their enjoyment.

Modern album filed under Contemporary R&B, so I was fearing the worst. This wasn't all that bad though. I think the beats were really nice and so long as the co-stars would shut up and let Solange sing it was a nice experience. Interludes were nicely woven into the rest of the album as well. The flow of the entire album is just pretty good, there are barely any songs as it's just one big piece stringing along. Can't find much fault with it outside of this just not being my thing.

I really like Leonard Cohen. This one has an almost melancholic feel to it, like it is the end of an era for him. Really nicely finishes off his original trilogy, even though he continued to make great albums after. Some of his deepest and most emotional pieces on here. Avalanche is one of his most thrilling songs, Famous Blue Raincoat one of his saddest. It's the most tone setting album of his, which is impressive considering the rest of his catalogue. Diamonds in the Mine is a bit of an oddity with it's more upbeat sound and Leonard Cohen belting, but it makes for a funny variety. It's always been an album that has really stuck with me and I just love it.

Megadeth at their best, but their best does reveal that they'll always be a bit of Temu-Metallica. Still, Eye of the Tornado and Holy Wars and a lot of other songs are real barnstormers. The solo's are good and Dave Mustaine's vocals are really fitting into the puzzle here. It's not the very best Trash album, but it's good for sure.

Obviously a Classic and a fitting album to have the day before Halloween. The Piano intro is brilliant and the entire piece is a wonderful piece of music, before Prog Rock got too quirky and kitsch. I really dug the second part of the album this time around as well. Tubular Bells part II doesn't really get the attention that the first side gets, but it's a nice piece on its own. Always a good album really, there's other long Prog songs of course but none quite like this.

One of those albums in the category of music that blends every sound from the 70's and early 80's together. That kind of half Punk, half New Wave, half Alternative kind of Pop sound. Good mesh and the Go-Go's do it well. Can't really find much fault with it, it's just a solid little bop of an album with some nice stand out songs. If not much more than that.

Really cool beats on this one. Cool vocal delivery and probably some interesting lyrics, even though I don't really pay attention to them most of the type. Gotta give it props for being one of the most baller album covers on the list as well. I thought it did go on for a bit long, somewhere in the latter two thirds I started checking out. Don't know if it's my lack of attention span or just a lot of albums on the list not really being able to sustain being great for over an hour. Really cool album and could see myself listening to some songs from this, probably not the entire thing.

Kid ARadiohead

Rated 4/10

Radiohead occupies this weird space where I never look forward to seeing an album from them, yet I never really rate their albums poorly. Didn't really care about this one much though. Almost Ambient in its approach at times. Very influential and every music nerd loves it yadiya but it's my rating and I kind of find it mopey and whining. Thom Yorkes voice kind of irks me a bit and I liked Radiohead a lot more when they were still rooted in Rock. Very cool that a band can change their sound like this and achieve success, but not for me.

HomeworkDaft Punk

Rated 6/10

One in the category of worthwhile artists included with the wrong album. Still, I can dig early Daft Punk. It's a bit softer than the type of Electronic I prefer to listen to, but it has its own charm. Around The World is a classic and Da Funk was a great song I hadn't heard in a long while. That said, this is quite a long album and I don't think it does the best at staying interesting. I really dug the first 40 minutes or so, but I was ready to listen to something else by the time Rock & Roll came around. A few songs less and I'd have given it a star more perhaps.

Le TigreLe Tigre

Rated 10/10

Wow, first time being this positively surprised by an album from here in a while. I love the sort of goofy punky attitude on here. It has the classic Punky stuff mixed with some seeming early 60's R&B grooves. There's a lot of other quirky stuff and touches in here that I just really enjoy as well. It's brimming with creativity like a lot of records seemingly aren't able to do, even good ones.

Empty HandsPoppy

Rated 8/10

Really cool surprise. Was hardly familiar with Poppy but somehow she's actually quite popular within said niche. It's somewhat typical Metalcore but Poppy does bring it's own flair. There's this sort of weird conflicting vibe from her artist name and aesthetic and the music itself that I really dig. Vocals are pretty unique for the vibe it's in and give it something to stand out over the other 10.000 harder Punk and Metal bands that every major city has.

My favorite work of his from his later era. He sounds as good as he did 3 decades before he made this. It slots in really well in the Grunge era as well, with all the noise coming from it. I will say that it feels like a bit of an overindulgent album from him. Songs are all really long and there is a lot of room for solo's and feedback loops and the like. Not that I care or mind, I like Neil Young and artists their 20th-something work is almost always just made for the fans.

This may just be their best album. I really like their earlier stuff, but this is when they started playing their more Blues / Country-esque sound and really caught on. It's solid as an album and really feels like their first commercially successful attempt at an album, rather than just some hit singles and filler stuffed together. They sound angry too, unlike anything beforehand really. My favorites on here are probably Jigsaw Puzzle with the twangy guitar and the angry Street Fighting Man.

I apparently really like Big Beat, as I've figured through this generator. Yet another good 90's Big Beat album on this list. I knew the Chemical Brothers from their few big hits but never heard an album by them. Safe to say it just feels like their hits but album length, in a good way. Just hits a right groove really. Also kind of bizarre that its taken 942 days for my first Chemical Brothers album out of 3.

Roxy Music with some growing pains. I see this one typically rated just as high as their later work and I don't quite agree. This doesn't really have the hits and delves a lot more into ambient and passive sounding songs. I kind of miss the energy compared to their 4 albums that followed. Still, it's not a bad album and Roxy Music in its infancy is still a good band. Perhaps it doesn't help that my record is a very silent and unpolished sounding example.

You often hear that this album sounds like it came out of the 90's moreso than it did the 80's, and it really does sound that way for me as well. I really enjoyed this one, catchy and varied throughout. Not too long, too alternative but still in that sort of mainstream scope of alternative. Probably should listen to more Violent Femmes, is the main take away.

I can normally admire World albums and stuff from Senegal, but this didn't really do the trick for me. It's quite a long sit at an almost full CD length. Besides that it's also quite a monotonous one with a lot of the songs just sounding very similar. Songs don't really go anywhere either. There were a few I liked in the middle but I don't think I'd revisit this over an Ali Farka Toure or something.

Live at LeedsThe Who

Rated 10/10

Absolute barnstormer of an album. Put one of the greatest live acts of the era on a live record and you get one of the greatest live recordings. The energy here is better noticable than on their regular Albums. The trade off is the audio quality, even on an original record it doesn't sound great. Still, it's just nice to have a selection of greatest hits from them played live in succession. The ''see me, feel me'' parts of Tommy will be great regardless of where they are played.

I’ve listened to this album plenty of times in the past and always enjoyed it, but this listen let me see some of the flaws on here for the first time. The album starts with the best and most energetic song and never really matches that. It goes into a calmer pace and doesn’t really switch off from that. Nice enough but a bit lacking in variety. Doesn’t help that this album has some weird live parts and repeating pieces that make it feel slapped together at times. Still like it, though.
