Definitely an artist I wish I'd had the opportunity to see live. So funky, so sexy, so, so purple.

Clearly a little bit mad, but mostly a very big bit talented.

Yep, stone-cold classic this one. Exactly the kind of band I wanged on about incessantly during the Britpop era because all the UK bands were "too popular". What an insufferable arsehole I was (and, most likely, still am)

Doesn't take anything away from this delicious slice of indie-rock though. From the opening bars of "Misunderstood" the memories came flooding back. I don't go back to this album as often as some on the list, so it's a 4 from me.

Blues always feels a bit like jazz to me where, if for example, you don't know that the only time Hooty McBoob played with Jim "Daddy" Sausage was in Chicago in Nov 1927, then you're an idiot.

I'm sure it's massively significant and influential, but......... *shrug*

Probably one where nostalgia gets the better of me. Generic mid90s rock, but was bought by pretty much everyone as it felt very different. Shirley Manson's powerful vocals and glossy mane definitely stood out in the sea of bang average Britpop era.

Want to give it 4 stars for the happy memories, it's getting a 3 because there's a lot of filler outside the big singles.

More "lush strings" than one would normally associate with Bjork, and if her "pixie spending 6 months of the year without daylight" vocals don't do anything for you, then this isn't going to change your mind.

Can't honestly say it did enough for me to warrant inclusion on this list, but an hour of Bjork is never going to ruin my day either

Exactly what metal should be. A little bit angry, a little bit silly, soaring vocals and bass that feels like it's going to rearrange your intestines.

5 stars for the sheer power of the vocals on "Run to the Hills" followed by the terrific drum breaks

The soundtrack to picturing myself in a smoky bar, contemplating the bottom of my whisky glass because I slept with my secretary but my wife found out and now she's taken the kids and moved back in with her mother who hated me all along.

Hmmm. Hard to believe there weren't thousands and thousands of these type of garage rock bands. Some became more polished, some probably did it better and disappeared to only exist as a dull anecdote Grandpa tells at parties.

For whatever reason, The Sonics have been dubbed influential and, if it's good enough for Nicholaus Arson, then that's good enough for me. 2 stars + 1 for The Hives.

Very much the Britpop hipster choice, which I probably unfairly judge them for but certainly no reason for them to be on this list twice. That said, although my heart sank when I saw this one appear, there's some very good tracks here - "Late in the Day", "Going Out"............

Should probably be 4 stars, but unfairly I'm only giving 3 because of my own pre-biased. Sorry.
