Liked this more than I thought I would. The Tracey Thorn vocals are great. Since this list skews so British, I'd expect an Everything But the Girl record at some point and am looking forward to it.

Honestly a little better than I expected. I still don't love it, and I think there's a lot of weird lyrical content on this record.

I understand the process behind recording this, but I feel like the live in studio vibe unintentionally creates a lot of distance between the songs and the listener. I feel like if I'd seen CH rock these songs live I would be really into it, but I couldn't really connect here. This was a first full listen for me, similar to when I got On the Beach. On the Beach knocked my socks off; this one didn't.

The BendsRadiohead

Rated 8/10

There are gonna be a whole lot of Radiohead albums on this list, huh? I really like this one. My teenage self would give it a five, but I can't quite go that high. Curious to see how I'm gonna feel giving O.K. Computer a spin at some point.

The first side of this album, holy fuck. Then you add "Once in a Lifetime" and "Houses in Motion" and you have one of the best five song runs on a record ever. Every tune here is a perfectly assembled groove from the core Heads, then you add Adrien Belew doing crazy guitar shit, Nona Hendrix adding vocal textures, etc., etc. Talking Heads at the peak of their powers.

HarvestNeil Young

Rated 6/10

The first Neil album that's not getting a five. Great songs on here, but I don't like the more theatrical stuff he indulges. "A Man Needs a Maid" doesn't really fit on a record that also has "Out on the Weekend" (maybe my favorite NY song of all. Love how he takes a huge shit all over Alabama though.

In UteroNirvana

Rated 8/10

The best Nirvana album. Heart Shaped Box is the best Nirvana single. The whole sound on this was pretty radical considering the glossy sheen Nevermind had. This one deserves more love.

TidalFiona Apple

Rated 6/10

I like Fiona, love the singles. The back half of this album gets really boring. I think she really matured as a songwriter (and, frankly, as an editor) after this, and I look forward to getting more into some of those records.

I love Depeche Mode and was fully prepared to give this a five, but it just didn't hit that way for me. It's a really good record with some real classics ("Enjoy the Silence" is kind of the peak of of dark 80s synth), but definitely imperfect.

I have an active dislike of Clapton and I was dreading yet another British white boy blues thing. But I did find this to be ok. I liked a couple of the covers. And the fact that its called The Beano Album made me laugh. I hope they all took care of their gas pain. (I know it's the name of a magazine, chill out)
