This is an absolute classic. Tons of reviews complain about this being generic or waiting room music, but the entire point is that this guy was so genre defining that the sound became widespread.

I want to like this. I really do. It's obviously breaking new ground, and you can hear all the things it influenced, but it's just not that great as an album. Very long, and mostly trolling.

Does this list need this many entries by The Byrds? I would say no. This is not bad, but I struggle to find it all that interesting either.

This did nothing for me. If I want carnival vibes I go for Tom Waits, this is nowhere near.

Honestly I lost patience at the opening monologue.
There are good tracks here, but they are drowned out by the filler.
Rated 6/10
Nothing about this is bad, but nothing is exciting either. Sure, it's hypnotic and mysterious, but I'm not sure I'd ever put the album on again.

I have never listened to this, but I should have.
I absolutely loved it.

Really not a fan of this. Almost cartoonish.
Rated 8/10
Dad rock, but it's just such a pleasant way to spend some time.

I don't really see what makes this an essential album. The music is fine, but the lyrics and vocals are really nothing special. The band seems to be overly occupied with holding back and being subdued, and I found the faster tracks to be much more interesting.
Rated 6/10
This is fine, but nothing remarkable. I don't think anything really stands out.
Rated 8/10
Clearly the music, and the voices, and the harmonies are superb, but oh boy those lyrics.

I had high hopes for this. I like the lo-fi aesthetic, and shorter simpler tracks. But this is a demo tape at best. Ideas of something that could become a track. Is someone snoring in the mix of one of the tracks? If so, I get it.
Honestly this style of music very rarely does much for me, and it's everywhere. A lot of reviews compare this to The Beatles, and I tend to agree. Problem is that I don't love The Beatles either.
Rated 8/10
An album that actually invented a genre. Honestly a quite varied album, despite being fairly hard hitting.
Rated 8/10
I really like parts of this. "Seven and seven is" is a beast of a track, especially for being recorded in 1966. The absurdly long jam (that even the band themselves disliked) has to drag down the rating though.

Tons of energy, and somehow the Sax actually works.
Rated 10/10
Lo-Fi, stoned, very indy. I should dislike this, but it really works.
Rated 4/10
Entirely unremarkable. The annoying parts of better bands, without any of the charm or skill.

Like a lot of people on this site, I got this album the day after her death. I'm not from the US, there will not be national days of mourning, but I love that a lot of people got Dolly today, just like a lot of people got Ozzy when he passed.
I think she's helped a bit by the old timey recording techniques, and I think she does silly much better than genuine, but this is a great album.
