This has its moments here and there, mostly points of nostalgia as I try to figure out where the samples came from. On the whole though this is a pretty mindless dance album. Not really my thing and I continue to question why there is so much of it on this list.

This rocks. Perfect album. Blues/psych guitar with bongos is always going to be a win for me. Only complaint is at 37 minutes this is criminally too short.

Outside of Walk On The Wild Side, there isn't a lot on here I'd be willing to call essential. I do however enjoy it all quite a bit. Possibly because of the very obvious Bowie fingerprints all over it.

HUGE influence on many of the bands I love. Some have covered songs from this album, others have admitted to outright stealing its riffs. When I think of post-punk, this is the album that comes to mind.

Track 1: Fiddles. Track 2: Twang. This did not get off to a great start. Fuzz organ on track 3 had me holding out hope though even if it did just lead to a standard 12-bar blues jam. Beautiful was a competent attempt at soul, complete with a li'l funk. Sure, it seemed based more on the swing of the metronome than feeling any vibes, but I think that really might be where this album peaked. The rest continues on as if they just wanted to challenge themselves to play a different style of music for each song. This mostly stinks.

Loved the Doors as a kid. Haven't really given them much run-time in years though. This is a solid album. The Changeling into Love Her Madly is just a great way to kick this off. Really nice blues basis throughout. fewer jazzy elements than previous releases makes this a little more accessible.

Liked this a little better than Ladies and Gentleman. Seemed more cohesive and less pretentious than that later release. That being said, it's still something that bores me.

Wow... I had never heard of this before today and was pretty skeptical based on the description. Turns out a lot of this really rocks! Love the late '70s disco throwback vibes. Lots of funk going on. It's not all great, but most importantly it's fun, which is pretty refreshing. Will be listening to this again.

Doesn't do a lot for me. There are a few interesting moments here and there, and nothing is truly off-putting about it. It's just not something I'd ever see myself reaching for to listen to.

Damn this rocks more than I expected. The fusion of western and eastern music styles is great. While the rock covers were fun and interesting, the originals are much more captivating, sounding like traditional ragas but expanding into psychedelia and cross-pollinated with guitar-centric melodies and fuzzed-out sitar.

Man, this starts off so strong with The New Stone Age sounding like a post-punk goth anthem. I really thought I'd love this. Unfortunately that energy isn't a consistent album theme. From there, things seem to quickly shift toward a safer sound. The gothy new wave influence is still there but it sounds like more straightforward electronic dance pop more often than not. None of it's bad, but it just doesn't stand out as anything special.

Tough one to rate. While it wasn't anything that really interested me, it wasn't something that offended either. It kept my head bopping most of the time, but I just never found myself really caring about anything that was going on. Great music if you just want to dance I guess.

Some great funk/soul worship here. This definitely surprised me. I've always written this band off because of the ridiculous hats their singer seems to define himself with. This might be my new secret shame. I still hate the didgeridoo being worked in so often. Feels like a novelty at that point.
