DookieGreen Day

Rated 8/10

I’m not a big Green Day fan by any means but every song on Dookie is pretty good. Maybe worth checking out more

If John Waters made G rated music, this is what it would be.

Also never realized how long Rock Lobster is. That should be like 2 minutes tops

Weird spaced out psychedelia that’s kind of passable as background music. It might be annoying to really focus on this, especially for the full hour plus the album runs. But it was fine. I kind of enjoyed it

I’ve only heard Red Hot Chili Peppers’ hits before, so I was surprised by how many of their songs sound a lot like Primus but are nowhere near as fun or funny as Primus is. Under the Bridge is a great song though

Ignoring how terrible of a person he was, this was actually a pretty good album. Really energetic and showcases the best of early rock n roll.

Also it’s hilarious that after Jerry Lee Lewis married his 13 year old cousin, his rock career failed but he became a huge success as a country musician

I had a bit of a Bob Marley phase in middle school. I really only listened to some of his biggest hits that I downloaded from Limewire. I should’ve dug deeper into his discography because I haven’t heard a single song off this album but they’re all pretty good

Abbey RoadThe Beatles

Rated 10/10

Glad that during all the personal drama and infighting, during the great social upheaval at the end of the 60s, the Beatles could come together and record one last masterpiece: Octopus’s Garden

Mudhoney seems super important to grunge and a lot of 90s alt rock but they’re mostly just ok. I prefer the stuff that came after them generally though

Deja Vu is an album that’s better listened to song by song. The harmonies in the singing get to be a bit much when you listen to all of it together. The songs are all good but a bit of variety would help. And unsurprisingly my favorite songs were the ones written by Neil Young

I’m not a huge metal fan but this album is pretty great. This and Ride the Lightning are the Metallica albums I enjoy a lot and would listen to on my own

There’s something kind of comforting and reassuring in really sad music. And Elliott Smith makes it all so beautiful and perfect

There was like 30 seconds at the beginning of this were I thought maybe it wouldn’t be as bad as I was expecting, but then the singing started and it was all downhill from there

Pretty great R&B/rap album if only a bit too long. Disappointing Lauryn Hill didn’t have much of a career after this. What I’ve heard of her unplugged album I even think is pretty interesting and not the disaster a lot of people portray it as

So the kind of folk music I enjoy is the American singer-songwriter with an acoustic guitar kind, not the British Skyrim-sounding ass kind
