RamonesRamones

Rated 10/10

I first heard this album when I was 14 and it changed my life. I thank the Ramones, and I thank Hilly Kristal for giving them a place to play. Getting into this band got me into the rest of the CBGB regulars, and totally changed the way my brain processes music.

People complain about how these songs all sound the same, but really, who else could take four power chords and make one of the most influential albums of all time? Nobody.

Yesterday’s album was Urban Hymns by The Verve, and I hated it so much that I decided that today’s album would automatically be a 5/5 no matter what. Fortunately, I would’ve given this one a 5/5 anyway because Tracy Chapman is incredible.

For as long as I can remember I’ve fucking hated Bittersweet Symphony, it’s quite possibly my least favorite song of all time. Based on this I just assumed I’d hate the rest of the album and I was absolutely correct.

In fact, I hate these guys so much that tomorrow’s album is gonna be an automatic 5/5 simply because it’s not The Verve.

As smooth as it is forgettable. I think Steve Winwood has written some good songs, but I think all of these missed the mark.

I was only familiar with a few of their hits after this point so I wasn’t sure what to expect from their first album. I was pleasantly surprised!

This is my second Stan Getz album in four days, and this one is just as pleasant. I think I liked Getz/Gilberto more simply because this one was purely instrumental and I liked having the vocals on G/G.

I’ve always been intrigued by the banana sticker, but I’ve never actually heard any of these songs. Anywhere. Ever. One of the most influential albums of all time and I’ve never heard any of these songs anywhere?

I think this is because this music isn’t very good, but the banana sticker fucking rules. Great idea, Andy!

I definitely enjoyed Parklife more. This one had some great moments, but every song had something that was annoying to me. It’s hard to believe this is the same guy who’d go on to write Demon Days.

I enjoy a handful of songs from Dire Straits, but it always surprises me how quickly this album loses steam after Walk of Life.

I’ve known and liked Stop! and Been Caught Stealing most of my life but I’ve never felt a strong urge to listen to this album. I was blown away particularly by the back half of this album, and I’m definitely going to revisit this one soon.
