The lyrics can be very silly and the album is about 15 minutes too long, but the voices are amazing, and the melody choices are pleasantly surprising a lot of the time. Also, points for great production.

She didn't write any of these songs, and it's country music (blegh), but her voice is undeniably amazing - not just in it's power, but in its ability to manipulate already fantastic melodies into something different.

4.5/5.0: Excellent.

I'm kind of surprised this album has such low ratings on this site. It's a monumental album in its genre and is very listenable while achieving a weird, spacy, vibe.

4.5/5.0: Excellent

I appreciate the DIY sound of this album, but it's very late oughts/early tens, despite the 2020 release date - especially with its focus on cutesy harmonies and echoey drums. However, there's enough originality and creativity on this record to earn it three stars.

2.5/5.0: Mixed

Another really interesting Peter Gabriel album. I like that he takes chances, but I also like that most of those risks work. Some of this is boring, but there's enough variety and unexpected moments that I can forgive some tedium.

4.0/5.0: Great

The folk songs "Jersey Girl" and "On the Nickel" are painfully bad (not surprisingly, the king of bad music, Bruce Springsteen, covered "Jersey Girl"). However, the remainder of the album is gritty, bluesy, jazz and really fits his voice and lyrics. Overall, without the folk numbers this is an excellent album. As it is, I'll say it's still very good.

3.5/5.0: Very Good

Yeah, not good. This is everything wrong with glam. It's just run of the mill cheesiness, with nothing interesting or special musically or lyrically. It's worst sin is that it's antithetical to everything metal should be. This is pop music posturing as metal / hard rock, and it's a shame it took the spotlight off of some actually talented metal bands of the era.

1.5/5.0: Bad

Great lyrical themes, but this is a heavily front-loaded album that really drags in the second half. It also feels like all of the artist's attention went to the pervasive production rather than the music, which is half-hearted and derivative. As for the aforementioned production, it's overdone and grating. I know all the fuzz was intentional, but it's just annoying and further detracts from the album.

2.0/5.0: Disappointing
