Didn’t even need to listen to this to know it’s a 5. I listened to this album on repeat in high school when it came out. Such amazing memories. But I happily listened to it again today and it hit even deeper 20+ years later. Love Green Day so much!

How have I never heard of them before?! As soon as the opener started I was hooked. And every song since. I feel like I’m at a house party in the 90s and I am loving every minute of it. I really love the lead singer’s vocals. It’s so versatile—like one minute he sounds kind of like the vocalists from Alice In Chains and then, other times, like Billy Corgan. Definitely one of my surprises in this album journey!!

I don’t like all the extra stuff on this Live version (intros, etc), but when Duke is actually doing his thing? It’s magnificent. I love it so much. I’m saving a 5 stars for a non-live album of his so I can enjoy his amazing music nonstop without interruptions.

This experience has made it very clear I am a huge New Wave and Synth-Pop fan. I was realllly excited to get this album. Especially after getting Depeche Mode and Gary Numan, both of which were immediate 5 stars even at the first song.

But I feel a little underwhelmed at this album, which I went into with very high expectations. Shout, Everybody Wants To Rule The World, and Head Over Heels/Broken are standouts for a reason. But, otherwise, I didn’t really feel super drawn to anything else. And some songs went on a minute too long for me without anything enticing me to feel like no time was passing.

My second Rolling Stones and I’m wondering if maybe it’s just not extra special to me or maybe I just haven’t come across the right album. It’s fun! But maybe not for me.

Embarrassed to say I have never heard of him nor his music before. But after looking him up….I am disappointed that someone with such beautiful songwriting and singing skills is….him.

Because, before I looked him up, I thought this album was so beautiful, deep, and emotionally raw in every (good) way. If I am rating this stand-alone album based on its musicality and artistry as if was made in 2000…it’s a sure 5 for me.

But I will not listen to this album again nor any of his music after this. Which is so disappointing bc he is the definition of a gifted singer-songwriter. Sigh.

Ok…I am surprised how much I LOVE this!!! How can you not bop your head and want to dance and sway your hips to this music? What a gem!! It sounds like a human genuinely enjoying what he is doing. Love love love!!!

On the second song and can already tell I don’t love this as much as The Man-Machine, which was my very first 5 star selection here. This has a different vibe and it’s fine, but I don’t feel as compelled to listen to every full song.

A little too discordant with the instruments for me. I like the singer’s voice. I sometimes was reminded of Jimmy Eat World with the smoothness of his vocals. But otherwise, not really for me.

Rated 10/10

10/10. No notes. No skips.

How did I forgot about U2’s GREATNESS?!?! So glad this brought their music back into my life!!!

Ugh. I already know this is one of the greatest albums of all time before even clicking on it. Thriller, the song, is a MASTERPIECE. I have already listened to this album numerous times from start to finish in prior years. I am also feeling quite conflicted about how to rate it for obvious reasons. Sigh.

That being said…

If I am rating it purely on the music, plus the music videos, it is the easiest 5. This is one of those albums you don’t just listen to, but get lost in. I can’t help but dance whenever I hear this album.

As much as I wish I didn’t have to rate this at all on here, I can’t give it less than a 5 because it truly is a iconic masterpiece of an album. And the Thriller song and choreography is a cultural phenomenon that forever changed the face of music and dance going forward.

I’ve already gotten another The Who album and didn’t love it, so I went into this unsure of how I’d feel. But this is pretty fun to listen to. It feels like a blend of musical theatre, rock opera, and that good ol’ classic 60s rock sound. I liked it way more than I anticipated and am glad I didn’t skim it over!

I’m going to make this review based on a blind listen of the album, as it was released in 1989. Not on the woman she is today, but who this album’s artist was.

This was such a surprise for me. Before listening, I figured I’d like it since I already have loved Janet’s hits. I have always looooved the song “Rhythm Nation” and I remember buying her All For You album when I was a teen.

But THIS. ALBUM. IS. AN. EXPERIENCE!! When I saw the length, I was groaning and thinking it’d be too long. But I love the social justice messages, the fun beats, and, after watching her music videos, her incredible dancing just adds to the whole vibe. She got me to get up and dance when I was convinced nothing would lift my mood today. This is a wonderful album.
