Never heard before… liked it

2nd Verve album I’ve had and 2nd time I’ve really enjoyed it without being blown away.
Rated 2/10
After tracks 3 & 4 I pencilled in ‘1 star’.
Nothing after that was quite as bad but also heard nothing to change my mind.
Is it necessary for this album to be over 2 hours long?
Is it necessary for me to drink my own urine?
No, but I do it anyway because its sterile and I like the taste

My 1 star review of Sheryl Crow was: “Perfect for anyone who thinks the music in your local garden centre is too edgy.”
Aimee Mann is for people who think Sheryl Crow is still too edgy.

Bore off, Johnny Bravo
Rated 4/10
Sounds like one of those bands you saw as a support act once then instantly forgot about.

I really like this era of noise rock but there’s so many better examples than this
Rated 6/10
Really enjoyed the first 4 songs. Sounded kind of like they were going for a Radiohead thing at times.
Everything else after that was a bore except One Day Like This which is an anthem for a reason.
Mixed bag. Overall 3 seems fair.

Big. Dumb. Stupid. Fun.
Pretty damn good.
Rated 10/10
Been a couple of years since I actually listened to this in full. Every bit as good as I remember.
Rated 4/10
Not the worst album on this list by any means but pretty far from ‘hear before you die’ territory. Sounds very dated.
Rated 10/10
5 stars because teenage me wouldn’t forgive middle aged me for putting anything else

Ticks all the boxes
- Moody but you can bop to it
- Vulnerable vocals
- Jangly effects-laden guitars
- Bass so forward in the mix it’s punches you in the ear
- Production that lets everything breathe
The actual songs aren’t half bad too.
Rated 2/10
1. Hire the guy who writes for Kiss, Cher and Bonnie Tyler and get him to write songs for you.
2. Gather 30 high school kids in a pizza place and keep reworking the songs and running order to appeal to them.
3. Profit.
Get in the bin.

I normally hate this kind of metal nonsense but for some reason I found myself headbanging and wanting to play F-Zero X.
Rated 4/10
The 60s/70s Laurel Canyon Scene….Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, The Byrds, Crosby Stills & Nash, Love, The Doors.
And The Eagles outsold them all.
People can’t be trusted.
Rated 8/10
Guess I’m emo now cos this was great.
