First time listening. Love the psychedelia. Can see this being revised to a full 5 star one day.

I really enjoyed Superfly. This one did nothing for me by comparison

Jonathan Donahue left Flaming Lips to make music that sounds quite a lot like the Flaming Lips.
He’s quite good at it too.

I didn’t full on hate it but it shouldn’t be on this list.

I’ve got really into country folk over the last couple of years. This one is pleasant enough but isn’t exactly a standout in the genre.

Listened to this on my lunch break.

By the time the album finished I had adorned my desk with a velvet table cloth, lit a candle, bought myself a solitary rose and drank half a bottle of Bordeaux.

Thinking of asking myself on a second date tomorrow.

Start with great folk songs then try your best to ruin them by adding…
-a bunch of weird drones
-Tempo which drifts all over the place
-Lyrics bordering on non-sensical
-Vocals which consistently sound strained and miss every note
-Synths which clip the mixing desk
-Guitar solos in a different key to everything else
-Drums which sound like a jazz drummer from a completely different band who just happened to be recording next door
-Piano thuds about twice the volume any sane producer would mix them
-shortwave radio samples

The result is an even better album than you started with. A standout in the era of quantised snap-to-grid, compressed to hell “professional” recordings. The kind of thing AI would never create.

And I bloody love it.

Not a massive blues guitar fan but actually quite enjoyed this. Probably won’t come back but glad to have listened.
