I feel like I’ve already listened to this even though I know I haven’t. Just kinda generic. I think I knew Dumb Waiters and Pretty in Pink ahead of time. Not really my jam. Favorite song was Mr Jones.

TruthJeff Beck

Rated 10/10

This man actually assembled the Avengers for Beck’s Bolero. Incredible album. Very clear how this influenced the likes of Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin (bit of stretch since half the band is here). He’s a great guitar player and Rod Stewart’s vocals really work here.

This was really good. The flows are great, the beats hold up, the features all pull their weight. Favorite songs were Freedom, A Day At The Races, What’s Golden, and Thin Line.

This is really great. The guitar playing and mood created in each of these songs keeps every feeling very cohesive and interesting. Favorite songs were Spellbound, Into The Light, Arabian Nights, Monitor, and Sin In My Heart.

Definitely MaybeOasis

Rated 10/10

To weight in on the eternal debate: Blur is a far more consistent band, but they never reached the absolute heights that Oasis did here and on Morning Glory. It’s just sounds massive. Doesn’t have as many hits across the pond as it’s follow up, but this is every bit as good.

While I didn’t enjoy this quite as much as Rain Dogs Tom Waits really shows off his personality and humor here while creating really great imagery through his lyrics. Music for rainy nights watching movies that don’t exist. I was so ready to compare this to that famous painting of the diner at night until I googled that painting and realized what was going on and how stupid I am. I am art illiterate. Favorite songs were Eggs and Sausage, Better Off Without A Wife, and Putnam County.

Through the first half of this I said to myself “I don’t know this band” and then five songs in I said” Wait, I DO know this band”. Interesting hear what else a one hit wonder did. This is pretty good album that is essentially britpop before britpop. Favorites were Timeless Melody, There She Goes, and Failure.

If you don’t like this album then I don’t like you. A solid 60% of the vocals on this sound like they were recorded inside a metal bucket and they’re great. Jazzy, funky, punky greatness.

This was alright. Maybe a little on the long side, but some of the guitar work was really good and the variations in style kept it interesting. Sometimes reminded me of Nick Cave. Favorite songs were Double Vegetation, Safesurfer, and If You Loved Me At All.

Way better than I expected it to be. These songs are lots of fun and the use of different languages is cool. Favorites were Clandestino, Bongo Bong, Lagrimas de oro, Welcome to Tijuana, and Malegria.

This is a fantastic album. All the guitar work kicks ass. The dynamic changes of the title track make you forget it’s 10 minutes long. Your favorite band’s favorite album indeed.

I’ve never gone too deeply into the SAULT discography. I like 5, but have never listened to this one front to back. It’s alright. Probably something I would listen to a song or to, but I don’t know if I would feel the need to play the whole thing again. I get the message it’s going for, but I don’t think there’s enough meat here. Favorite songs were Wildfires, Only Synth In Church, and Pray Up Stay Up.

Never heard of her or this album. Not sure what album everyone else is listening to here. This was great! Similar songwriting style to Carole King. Favorite songs were Luckie, Sweet Blindness, Eli’s Comin’, and Woman’s Blues.

There is a universe where I connect to this guys music and really like it. This is not that universe and I don’t like this very much. Like Thom Yorke if he was boring. Favorite song was Gay Messiah.

Yesterday generated Stand! by Sly and the Family Stone and this album samples that a couple times. What a cool coincidence. This is solid, but why would I listen to this when groups like A Tribe Called Quest or De La Soul were doing the same thing, but better. Favorites were People Everyday and Mr Wendal

Now THIS I dig. Excellent songs front to back with great playing. Great grooves and vocals. Had me dancing in my office chair. RIP Sly Stone.

Until I hit play I assumed this was a solo record from Prodigy of Mobb Deep. This was pretty good. Yeah the songs are long, but they aren’t just repeating the same phrase over and over again to attain that length. They go somewhere, more elements are added, parts are taken away. Favorites were Their Law, Voodoo People, No Good, and 3 Kilos.

Never heard of this group or album before. I liked it. I especially like how the drums sound and guitar playing is pretty good too. The vocals are somewhat amateurish but that’s part of the appeal. Favorite songs were Another Girl, Another Planet, The Beast, and Language Problem.

This one does some really interesting things instrumentally where at some points it sounds almost like surf rock. This one was pretty good. Favorite songs were The Cutter, Back Of Love, Clay, and Porcupine.
