Worse than The Fat of the Land, but not bad. A nice mix of styles.

Okay, so I've never given The Prodigy a chance. I don't know why. Breakbeat wouldn't even be my tenth guess when it comes to the kind of music they make. For some reason, I was convinced they were somewhere in the rock sphere. Metal or something like that. But clearly, that's not the case.

It's interesting and boring at the same time. Captivating, yet it makes me want to skip every song. I'm very conflicted about this album. It's not my cup of tea at all, and I'd never willingly listen to it, but it does have some cool sounds, even if they're beaten to death, revived, and given one final punch. That's my problem with this genre: it's too repetitive. At least make the songs around three minutes long if you're going to do stuff like this.

I'm not going to touch on its influence since I'm not tapped into this genre at all, but as a whole, it's not a terrible album.

Pre Listen:
Oh god, I audibly groaned reading this one's title and seeing the release date. The album cover looks stupid. Based on everything before me, guessing this one is gonna be 50+ minutes of dumbasses complaining about their lives with the worlds shittiest guitar and drums backed behind it. I'll issue a formal apology if I'm wrong.

Notable Tracks:
The Voodoo People - Oh this is where that one electronic bit I've heard before comes from. Specifically from around 2:25, I swear I've this bit in some sort of shitpost before.
3 Kilos - Best track on here, idk if I'd call it a "favorite" but I enjoy the samples the most here.
Claustrophobic Sting - Least favorite track, what a weak way to end an album. That Alvin and the Chipmunks ass sample repeated dozens of times is annoying as shit. Other vocal samples used are also horribly cringe.

Post Listen:
I hereby formally apologize for being assumptive and negative in regards to the band "The Prodigy" before listening to their album "Music for the Jilted Generation". I was incorrect about them being a mediocre, dime-a-dozen rock band from the 90's. Instead they were a slightly above average beat-and-sample band from the 90's.

It was better than I expected, but only because it was different from what I expected. They still fall into the same pitfalls many beat and sample groups find themselves in; songs go on for too long, samples grow stale, some things work better than others, and everything desperately needs to be cleaned up. I never understand why these sorts of groups go "Yeah yeah lets sample a baby crying or glass breaking, and loop that shit 1000 times, it'll be great!" It's never great, it really never is. Regardless, some songs would be enjoyable to club to I guess, but most are mid.

Filing this album under "Things that probably sound better on Stimulants". 3/5

I don't know enough of this genre to describe what is happening. Anything that doesn't seem to produce sound with, guitar, bass, drums or other real instrument I call it "electronic" I like the chemical brothers, Fatboy slim... And thats all that comes to my mind, I like the fat of the land but that sounds more like, rock, punk, industrial songs with a defined structure and lyrics. So I would say that maybe they needed to make this album to get to that point which I do enjoy, but this, this is too repetitive for me. There's a reason people had to take drugs before listening to this.

Today years old when I found out that I left the CD for this one in my sold car. RIP to Music for the Jilted Generation and hope the next owner likes the Prodigy. Always a good one to put one. It's more rave-ish than their other work which I like. Songs are perhaps a bit needlessly long at times and it makes the runtime of the album quite a chunky one too. Not every one here is a rave classic, but the good moments on here are just so damn good.

Rated 6/10

Brings me back to the 90s clubs. I've never heard the album in the entirety. I will listen to it again

Rated 8/10

90s rave darlings transition into a heavier slightly industrial dance sound that would see them not only invented to download ( the heavy metal festival ) but headline it

Kind of like the transformation of Superman into his evil twin in Superman 3

As if they where contaminated with tar

The Prodigy is 0/2 for me and I’m glad it’s over!

The cover art made me think I was about to listen to a metal album and I got excited. Then I read the Wikipedia description and was very disappointed.

That being said, I think this is my favorite electronic album I've heard on this list so far. It was good background music. But there's definitely nothing on here that I find worth returning to. It's gonna take something really special to make me like this genre.

I don't think I recognize any of the tracks on this album by title. I'm aware of The Prodigy's hits, so I suppose I have _some_ idea of what I'm getting into here. But I'm not really looking forward to this.

Yeah, this is mostly as I anticipated. I'm not into this. Sweet Jesus, this is repetitive. And it's to such an extent that if you had told me this was a parody of how boring and repetitive this music can be, I would have thought this was hilarious.

Rated 6/10

For a creepy album cover my first impression was that this was another metal album... that's not the case here.

Unlike the last few dance/electronic albums, this one is beat-heavy with a sprinkle of some random side effects. And for 78 minutes it goes on far too long. I’m more partial to recent dance music like Underscores and Ninajirachi since they condense it into less than 5 minutes per track (2.5-3).

Decent background music

Heads up, if you look for this on YouTube, the first album that comes up is the 30th anniversary remix album. So that’s what I listened to all the way through before realizing my mistake. Checked out a few tracks from the original and they sound dated in comparison. The remix album is pretty good though, I liked a few songs, most were just ok.

Rated 6/10

Rave music's got a lot of problems, but "not angry or aggressive enough" is not one of them. I generally enjoyed listening to this, but there is a tough guy silliness to it all that makes me roll my eyes.

Rated 6/10

Well, i did not like this neeearly as much as the Crab boi album. But it was still pretty fire. Strong 3

I was already expecting to love Music For The Jilted Generation and i was completely right. It definitely feels a little different from their later effort, The Fat Of The Land, being that it definitely feels like they put way more stuff into this album instead of just focusing on being a simple dance club banger. A lot is going on in this album with each song having so many elements and the way some of the songs introduce the ideas in the songs that have a lot of those feels very seamless and natural. It also helps that the songs here are all bangers and even at 78 minutes, the album never felt like it was dragging. I still lean a bit more towards The Fat Of The Land being my favorite album by these guys but i still love this one nonetheless.
Best Song: Voodoo People
Worst Song: 3 Kilos

I used to go to every show at that venue, because I knew she was there. She was the first person to ever come over to my apartment. She kisses were like fire. She put butterflies in my stomach every time I saw her. Then things dwindled, and she told me she would slow down. She was a bit of a relationship anarchist. That was okay! We would still kiss sometimes, we would still have conversations that ran deep into the night. She was a really good friend. Then one night, in the middle of a conversation, she said "I'm sorry." and I asked why, and she said "Because I'm not as into you as you are into me."

I had already known that and put it in the back of my mind, but it was still a gut-punch to hear her say that outright. Things weren't the same after that. We didn't pay each other as much attention. She started bringing someone else to the venue. I saw her there tonight. She willfully admitted that she had been leading me on. Admitted she was a bad partner. I know there's nothing else she can do to make up for the pain she had caused, but still, I'm ashamed to admit that it still doesn't feel like enough. She's still there at every show, with her new gal pal. I used to go to those shows just to see her. Now I can't go at all. Because I'll see her.

I found this record really boring, and it didn't entertain me enough to drown out how I've been feeling today.

Rated 6/10

I enjoyed more than i remembered. Obviously Poison, Voodoo People and No Good are the standout tracks, but all the tracks up to No Good are fairly strong. Unfortunately i think the quality drops thereafter.
