Hilariously earnest. Not fun to listen to, but they do know how to silly.

Rated 4/10

Sappy in a way I don't really care for. Felt kinda cringe. Look, they're talented musicians, but it's just a dull, uninteresting affair.

Rated 2/10

This album reminds me a lot of Roxy Music. I really hate Roxy Music.
Also, I’m really uncomfortable with the sheer number of times the singer tells us how much he loves horses and dogs … like, REALLY loves them. I strongly believe the ASPCA should get involved. I really expected to hear that Sarah McLachlan song playing under a public service announcement begging me to donate to abused animals at the end of this album.
Now, in The Divine Comedy, the Italian poet Dante famously outlined his Nine Circles of Hell within the Purgatorio canticle of the epic poem. Expanding upon the biblical description of the 7 Circles of Hell, Dante’s embellishments added 2 levels of increased severity … one for violence and the other reserved for everyone involved in the making of this pompous, self-important clusterfuck of an album.

I suffered through most of this record. The first song was interesting, at least, since about a third of it was a pleasantly discordant orchestral break. I'll admit he's an interesting lyricist, but I just can't stand syrupy music like this. At least it's only 31 minutes long.

Another pile of nothing. Absolutely nothing special. This sounds like the random band playing in the background at a random 2 star restaurant when you are on vacation with your parents and waiting for your shitty pizza to come.

Rated 6/10

I think Chamber Pop is okay, just like “A Short Album About Love.” Of course, it has an old-fashioned—or revival—sound and offers no innovation whatsoever. But still, The Divine Comedy did a thoroughly professional job with the production, and the album never gets boring, even though it leans more toward easy listening. It's worth a listen. Whether it's a must-hear, I'm not so sure.

they really put the orchestral in orchestral rock i liked a lot of the riffs but then the singing i was not as much of a fan of

Rated 8/10

While they’ve never been one of my big favourites, I’ve always enjoyed The Divine Comedy. I started listening to them when I was 7-8 years old once I found out Neil Hannon did all the music for Father Ted, best comedy series ever made lol.

As for the album itself, I do really like it but I think Fin de Siècle would’ve been a better choice for inclusion. It has their biggest hit in National Express and one of their best songs overall in Sunrise.

Top Track - Everybody Knows (except you)

Rated 8/10

I wasn’t expecting to, but I really enjoyed it. It wasn’t a 5, or anything, but I sure did like it a 4 amount.

Rated 2/10

Why on god's green earth is this the SECOND album by this artist on this list. I don't think he deserved to be on this list once, let alone twice. This is marginally better than the Divine Comedy but that ain't saying much.

Rated 6/10

I feel like the divine comedy were really popular with an extremely specific half/quarter generation. I kinda enjoy some of their stuff but I’m not going to decide to listen to it on my own.

Rated 4/10

Hey ChatGPT, make a Father John Misty album but change the lyrics so it sounds like it’s written by a teenager.

Do yourself a favour and go listen to Mahashmashana instead.

Rated 4/10

It wasn't bad, but nothing grabbed me either.

Rated 6/10

I found that listening to this while taking a hot shower was the ideal way to experience this. Stepped out onto the bath mat just as the organs hit in the final song. This one takes itself a little more seriously than Casanova while still maintaining some of the humorous lyrics on songs like If… The arrangements are really good and I can tell that he had fun making this. Favorite songs were Everybody Knows, If I Were You, and I’m All You Need.

Rated 4/10

Some catching parts, but not for me.

Rated 6/10

This record sounds like a clear combination of musical perfection and miserable sound. So, on average, it gives us...

Rated 6/10

Solid songs, but rather strange?

Rated 10/10

Neil Hannon is a genius. This is one of my favourite albums of all time. Unfortunately a lot of people on here are too stupid to appreciate it, but I don’t care. More concert tickets for me.

Rated 6/10

Wanted to hate it, but the guitar work is so smooth and nice on some tracks. Also not my thing, but had fun. I want love songs to be like this not the 80s pop drama
